Suppose you have been ghosted after the interview. In that case, you can take proactive actions to take yourself out of a state of limbo and resolve your confusion. It is advisable to do these steps immediately after the time frame specified by the employer has passed. Sometimes, the interviewer does not specify a time frame. So, we recommend waiting for about a week before carrying out these steps:

Write an email to the interviewer

One of the first and best ways to get closure and re-establish contact with the interviewer is to send them a follow-up letter after the timeline provided has passed. Calling is not advisable because you may come out as being intrusive. Also, following up within the given time frame shows your professionalism.

The email should not be longer than three paragraphs and should be polite and straight to the point. If your previous interactions with the interviewer were through email, then it is good to reply to the last message rather than start a new email thread. It will remind the interviewer about your previous interactions.

You can also follow up with another email if the first one was not answered. It should just be confirming if your email was received, however, and it should be even shorter than the first.

Should I Send A Thank You Email After A Phone Interview

Always plan to send a phone interview thank you email. Not only is it good manners, but it also confirms that you are interested in the position to your potential employer. The thank-you follow up keeps you top of mind as the hiring manager goes through and narrows their list. Like an in-person interview, you ideally want to send the note immediately after the interview. If that isnt possible, aim to send the email within 24 hours.

Like any other thank-you email, it gives you the opportunity to share anything you may have forgotten to mention. Sometimes its tough to get everything you want to say in on a phone call, so the thank-you email after the phone interview is a great place to clarify. Make sure to express appreciation for the interviewers time, and always remember your main goal: to move on to the next step in the interview process.

If you dont hear back from the potential employer up to two weeks after your interview, its perfectly acceptable to send a follow-up email. In fact, its expected.

When you do follow up, reference something specific from the interview conversation that you had. This could be anything from a shared interest to a project you discussed working on together. If there were multiple interviewers, CC them all on the email.

You can also check the companys website to see if there are updates on the status of the role. If the vacancy announcement disappears from the career page or it is past the time frame provided in the recruitment process, its safe to reach out. Even if it potentially means that you didnt qualify for the position, its better to know so you can quit guessing and continue your job search.

And if you dont hear back at all, just move on. There are plenty of other opportunities out there. And while it is in good practice for companies to reply to all candidates, sometimes they dont.

Youre Waiting To Hear If Youve Made It To The Next Round

Youre probably not going to like this answer. But if youre waiting to hear if youve made it to the next round of interviews, you need to have some patience. This scenario can be frustrating.

But if there are a lot of candidates in the mix, its going to take some time.

First, think about your own experience. The emails and maybe phone calls to coordinate schedules. The prep calls with recruiters to go over the folks youre meeting with. The schedule juggling to find the right times with the right people. The number of people you might have interviewed with up until this point.

Now, multiply that by the number of people interviewing for the job. And on the recruiters end, multiply that by the number of open positions they may be hiring for.

Lets say David has completed his first interview with the recruiter and the hiring manager. The recruiter initially told him that there are three rounds of interviews. The third and final round is with the teams VP. Its only been two days since David completed his interview with the hiring manager.

Hes already sent a thank-you note after the interview, so he decides to wait patiently for news on the next round. He consults his coach who tells him to wait at least a week before following up again.

If you havent heard from them in 7-10 days, its OK to send a follow-up note. But try to practice some patience. Hang in there. Youve got this.

If you havent heard back from an employer after an interview within a time frame theyve given you, or after two weeks since the interview, you can send a checking in email to your interviewer.

Making decisions on who to hire takes a different amount of time for every company. Sending an email to check in shows employers that youre waiting for an update while also reminding them of your excitement for the opportunity.

  • Mention the title of the position that you interviewed for in the subject line or opening sentence.

  • Keep this email concise. Let the employer know that youre still interested in the position and are looking forward to getting an update.
