Getting An Interview Appointment
At the height of the pandemic, the Global Entry program experienced a major backlog of applications because of closed enrollment centers and limited appointments, which caused months-long delays in processing new applications and approving renewals. However, the agency has now worked through most of those backlogs, and about 60 percent of applications are conditionally approved within 15 days, according to Lawson. Applications that require a more detailed review can take up to four months.
Plan to enroll in Global Entry upon landing in the U.S., and you can do your interview on the spot.
Once your application is conditionally approved, you’ll receive an email that there’s a message in your Trusted Traveler account. You’ll then be asked to schedule an in-person interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center, which can be found all over the country. With the lingering scheduling and backlog delays from the pandemic, its difficult to estimate how long it will take to secure an interview, but you do have up to 730 days after your conditional approval to complete the enrollment process. If you’re having trouble securing an interview slot, check back oftenpeople sometimes cancel their appointments, opening up earlier slots.
Currently, 63 Enrollment on Arrival airports are in operation across the country here’s a full list.
What Are The Costs

Airports With Global Entry Enrollment Centers For Interviews
The toughest part of the Global Entry application process is scheduling a timely interview at a nearby location. Over 100 global airports have enrollment centers, but it may still take months to find an interview time slot.
Not every airport with Global Entry kiosks has enrollment centers and vice versa. Use the tables above to see which airports with kiosks also have enrollment centers. These airports are marked with a * symbol after the name.
How To Handle The Delays

Global Entry enrollment centers are now open again, in dozens of airports across 44 U.S. states and territories. Conditionally approved applicants can schedule an appointment at their nearest enrollment center online through their trusted traveler account.
According to CBP, appointment availability varies by location, and there can be a long wait at some locations. When scheduling an appointment, the agencys system will also show alternate enrollment centers that might have interview availability sooner. CBP recommends applicants contact centers to see if they take walk-ins, a policy that varies by location it also advises to check back often for new openings due to cancellations.
The good news? Due to the delays, the window for conditionally approved applicants to schedule their interview has been upped from one year to two years. That longer time frame means your application wont expire for 24 months from the date of conditional approval while you attempt to schedule an interview.
Earlier in the pandemic, some travelers complained of being stuck in pending review modeunable to schedule an interviewfor nearly a year. As of spring 2021, roughly 60 percent of applications are conditionally approved within 15 days, according to CBP, with applications needing more detailed review taking as long as four months. Applicants can check the status of their membership by logging into the trusted traveler website.

Luckily, there is a time component to these criminal offenses.
Online state that if your conviction is 10 years or older, you can still pass a background check. Your conviction might still be brought up in the interview, but at least you can get past the conditional approval stage.
Customs and immigration violations
If you have been found in violation of any customs, immigration or agriculture regulations or laws in any country, You could lose your membership status. So lets say you were caught transporting banned plants into a country like Australia, that infraction could cost you your eligibility for Global Entry.

Basically, if CBP cannot deem you a low risk traveler you will be out of luck. However, it is possible to appeal the decision for your Global Entry eligibility.

After you apply, attend an interview, and you get approved, you will be issued something known as a PASSID which is also called a Known Traveler Number. This number will be automatically attached to your passport.
When you arrive back in the US, you will be able to bypass the main immigration line and head over to a kiosk area where you can scan your passport and biometrics. After verifying your travel details and making any declarations, you will be issued a receipt and often you will show that to an immigration officer who will quickly wave you through immigration.
Its a very efficient process that takes the pain out of international travel to a large degree.

How To Renew Your Global Entry Membership

The renewal process is really quite an easy one. To start, you can opt to renew your membership a full 365 days before it expires! There is one big reason that is great free enrollment!
Through various programs and cards, it is possible to get your Global Entry fee waived. For people that have that status or one of the cards that provides reimbursement, that can very much by a time-limited benefit. For instance, many of us took advantage of requesting our Global Entry codes from United Airlines before they ceased the program earlier this year. My code listed the expiration date as May 31, which I assume may be similar for most people.
