The Palace Hr Department

In the interview, Meghan stated that when suffering from mental health issues she tried to seek help from the palace HR department, but she was refused as she was not a “paid employee of the institution”. According to journalist Jonny Dymond “There’s no HR department for working royals because it’s a family affair”, and HR managers are responsible for helping lower level royal staff and the household. Notwithstanding, seeking private therapy has precedent in the royal family and royal biographers questioned Meghan’s claim of being turned away. In her own 1995 interview, Harry’s mother, Diana, stated that she “received a great deal of treatment” after suffering from postpartum depression. In 2017, Harry himself acknowledged that he sought counselling years after his mother’s death.

My Father And My Brother They Are Trapped Harry Says

Harry revealed to Oprah that the turning point between Meghan and the royal family happened after their Australia tour, when members of the crown got jealous over the “effortless” way Megan connected with the people and the commonwealth.

However, Meghan said that she did not receive royal training, and was instead up late and night googling protocols like the national anthem to prevent embarrassment.

“I just wanted to make them proud,” said Meghan.

She also denied having plans to leave the monarchy when she and Prince Harry started dating. Instead, Harry said that he never would have left if he hadn’t married Meghan, but only because their relationship opened his eyes to how he was trapped by the “Institution” he was born into.

Historian Robert Lacey explained that Meghan handing in her driver’s licence would have been a requirement under security rules, as she “would not be protected” if she went driving by herself. Royal commentators said that her passport would still have been used when she was travelling internationally â only the Queen does not use one â but that it would have been kept with other royals’ personal documents in a safe and accessible place, which “really was routine, and probably anything would be accessible to her if she wanted it.”

We’ve been building towards this moment since November 2016, when Prince Harry issued a statement calling out the abuse, harassment and racially motivated smears his then-girlfriend had been subjected to on a daily basis by Britain’s gutter media.

The obvious comparison is to the ordeal faced by Princess Diana, Harry’s mother, who lost her life in a car crash while attempting to flee from the paparazzi. What’s especially controversial is much of the backbiting and anti-Meghan sentiment can allegedly be traced back to Kensington Palace, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – who to put it mildly, are not on good terms with Harry and Meghan.

It’s the TV event of the year and no subject is off-limits, so read on as we explain how to watch the Harry and Meghan interview on Oprah online – stream it FREE on-demand from all over the world right now.

Prince Harry, Meghan reveal struggles behind royal rift in Oprah interview

Samantha Markle, her half-sister, released a book recently called The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1. Meghan Markle said she didn’t really have a relationship with Samantha, grew up as an only child, and hasn’t seen her in nearly 20 years.

Oprah also said she could tell it was painful for Harry to discuss his fraught relationship with his father, Prince Charles, noting that no one in the royal family — Charles included — stood up for Meghan and Harry and against the racist undertones of how they were covered in the press.

Some Said Oprah Went ‘soft’

Some commentators, mostly UK-based, speculated that Oprah went “soft” on the couple because of her friendship with them.

Royal biographer Anna Pasternak told the BBC that “none of Meghan’s real behaviour was questioned”.

“It was a very soft-serving, soapy interview in Meghans favour,” Pasternak said.

“It was an absolute exercise in torching the house of Windsor.”

Former Fox News and NBC host and journalist Megyn Kelly was one of the naysayers about Oprah’s performance, tweeting that she “wanted more” from the interview.

“M & H pretend that no royal has had it worse in the press than they have. Give me a break,”Kelly posted online.

“Have you ever seen such privileged people wallowing in their own victimhood like this?”

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan also spoke out negatively against the interview and, when his backlash drew criticism from his co-host, he walked off the set of his own show.

Britain’s media regulator launched a probe after receiving more than 40,000 complaints about Morgan’s comments in regards to Meghan Markle.

If You Want To Watch Plan To Settle In

This interview is two hours long, which means you’re going to want to have enough snacks and plan your bathroom breaks. The first half of the interview was a one-on-one with Meghan and Oprah, and Harry popped in for the second half.

Last month, Prince Harry got his chance to get some things off his chest during an interview with James Corden, where he didn’t appear to hold back about what he was feeling.

Dating with me, or with any member of the royal family I guess, is kind of flipped upside down, he said of his and Meghan’s courtship. All the dates become dinners, or watching the TV or chatting at home. And then eventually once you become a couple, then you venture out to dinners, or the cinema and everything else. So everything was done back to front with us. We got to spend an enormous amount of time just the two of us, rather than going to friends’ houses or out for dinner where there were other distractions. There were no distractions, and that was an amazing thing. We went from zero to 60 in the first two months.

Reactions Of The Royal Family And The Markle Family

According to BBC News, the interview led to “crisis meetings involving senior royals”. On March 9, Buckingham Palace released a statement in response, saying: “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.” When asked about the interview by the reporters during a visit to an East London school on March 11, Prince William responded to the allegations of racism by saying, “We’re very much not a racist family”. Reporting on the couple’s relationship with the royal family, CBS This Morning presenter Gayle King stated that Harry had started conversations with his father and brother but “those conversations were not productive”. In response to the allegations of racism, a source close to the palace stated that in order to tackle the issue they had “the policies, the procedures and programmes in place but we haven’t seen the progress we would like in terms of representation and more needs to be done, we can always improve”. They added that it was “too early” to announce any “firm plans”, but the royal family was supportive of the idea to have someone in charge of diversity and inclusion in the royal households.
