Group interviews require multiple interviewers. While one person may be able to run a small group interview, they cant watch everyone at once. A good group interview is also a panel interview, with 2-4 interviewers watching the group. Each panel member may have specific characteristics theyre watching for, or everyone might have the same interview scorecard.

An added benefit of using a panel of interviewers is helping to remove bias from the interview process. One person might be more susceptible to a loud and charismatic candidate than another or might miss a critical detail that another will catch.

Group interviews are very public. In some situations, a candidate might not want their current employer to know theyre seeking a new job, for fear of repercussions. These candidates might not want to attend a group interview, because other people in the group might catch their name and post about it, or recognize them and talk about it, and news can filter back. This isnt always a concern, but it can be a concern in some situations and for some candidates.

The Benefits Of A Group Interview Format

A group interview typically involves one or a small handful of interviewers in a situation where they interview numerous candidates all at once. This has a few notable benefits over other interview styles, though the benefits might not be beneficial to your company depending on your business.

Group interviews can showcase how candidates work with one another. Everyone will say they play well with others and work well in groups, but until you put them in a group scenario, you wont be able to judge them accurately.

With a group interview, you can see some beginning characteristics emerge. Which candidates treat each other as competition? Which ones pay attention, and which ones stay isolated? You can judge the character of your candidates in a situation you cant normally look for in a standard interview.

Add Numbers To Your Bullet Points

What good is updating your resume if you don’t show what you’ve accomplished since the last time you updated it? Take a look at your resume in its current state. Do all of your bullet points contain numbers? Do you have measurable accomplishments that prove you save or make companies money? If not, your resume still has some cobwebs. You still have some updating to do.

Breathe life back into your resume by quantifying your work experience. Add numbers to each bullet point in the “Work History” section of your resume. Think about what have you accomplished at work. Think about the service you provide as a business-of-one. What is your specialty? Do you get results? What have you accomplished that proves you’re a valuable employee? If you can’t quantify something, it doesn’t belong on your resume.

Including numbers on your resume not only shows hiring managers what you can do, but they also help your resume stand out from the competition. Letâs suppose we have a small hotel in Patagonia. We also have a database containing guestsâ names, cities of origin, ages, check-in dates, check-out dates, and more. This data is in two tables called room_guest and guest. Have a look:

Now, suppose the hotelâs owner wants to know how many guests come from each city. To find out, we need to count the number of records in each group. In other words, we need the aggregate function COUNT, which returns the number of records in a group. COUNT is a very common function weâll return to it later in this article.

So, we need a query to create groups of records with the same value in origin_city and then count the number of records in each group. The query would look like this:

SELECT origin_city,COUNT AS quantity_of_guestsFROM   room_guest GROUP BYorigin_city

You can compare the number of guests from each city in the result table below against the colored table shown previously:

Notice that the number of rows in the query results are the same as the quantity of groups created by the GROUP BY clause. One group for each city, one row for each city.
