Screening Call With Hr Or Internal Recruiter

This lasts about 45 minutes to 1 hour. HR or the recruiter will spend most of the time asking questions about your career. They will usually start in chronological order from your ï¬rst job to your most recent position. Youâre expected to answer questions in the

Itâs unlikely youâll get too much feedback during that conversation, and it might seem more âinformationalâ or casual â but it hardly ever is. Job-seekers tend to come out of the conversation feeling good, which is strange because you have no indication of whether or not you made it to the next round! I believe the reason for this is because the recruiter/HR will let people talk most of the time without interrupting them. People love to talk but donât realize whether or not theyâre saying the right things. Hereâs the best way to approach this initial call and to make sure you are saying right things: 1) Practice talking about your career from start to ï¬nish. There will inevitably be pieces youâve forgotten, including the reasons youâve left certain jobs and so forth.

The First Oa Debugging

The easiest OA in my opinion.

Time: 20 minutes.

Questions: 7

Languages Java, C++, C

For each question, you will be given a problem and a small solution for it. The solution will have small bugs . The bugs will be very minor and easy to spot. However, the key to this round is timing.

You will have 2.5 minutes per question and a couple of extra minutes buffer, and that is more than enough time youll need to solve all problems. And you dont have to prep for this round, just the fact that you are chosen for Amazons OAs shows that you are a good enough coder to find these bugs.

Tips for this round:

  • Do not panic. The only way youll not perform well in this round is if you panic.
  • Skip a question and leave it for the end if you spend too long on it.
  • Run the code and look at the output instead of hunting for the bug in the solution directly. The output will give you huge hints on what is wrong in the code.
  • Advice To Interviewers And Some Things Ive Learned

I like interviewing people. I get the awesome opportunity to really listen to folks as they open up. Even for the candidates which were definitely not a fit for the role, Ive been able to learn something them. As a big-company perspective-thing, its also humbling to see so many people that want to come join what youre working on. You also get to learn about other ships in the fleet and broaden your perspective.

Undeniably, interviewing is a privilege. Particularly the privilege to interview so many people is an indicator of the growth which isnt normal. And its crazy that we struggle to hire enough people , even with so much interest. Ive interviewed 1 person a week at AWS over 5 years, turning down probably just as many interviews.

Make sure the candidate understands the context of the rolebut also a chance to openly introduce themselves without judgement. Ive found I would rather give up 510 minutes of question time for additional intro and context to get information that helps me make a decision and ask better questions.

You own providing a good experience to the candidate. I think too many people view interviewing as a battle of sorts.

Lets all say it together: Interviewing sucks

To me, this means giving candidates all the chances to expose their best strengths. Ill often ask things like:

Anything else youd like to brag about yourself in this situation?

If you got to present for 4 hours on anything at all, what would be your area to shine?

Can You Describe Yourmost Difficult Customer And How You Were Able To Handle Their Needs

How To Prepare For Amazon Interview

Amazon rose to greatness partially because of its commitment to customer service. It made the shopping experience better, even when something didnt go right.

If the job is even remotely customer-facing, you should be ready for this question. Dealing with a disgruntled customer isnt easy, and Amazon wants to know that youre up to the challenge.

    SAMPLE ANSWER:

In my previous role, a customer was upset that a product they ordered was put on backorder unexpectedly after they made their purchase. They needed a functional version of the item as quickly as possible, and the possibility that that wouldnt happen increased their stress levels, leaving them just shy of hostile. To resolve their issue, I began by listening to their concern, rephrasing what was being shared, and asking clarifying questions to ensure my full understanding. I then reassured them that Id work with them to find a solution. Together, we discussed alternative products that were in stock that could meet their needs. As soon as a substitute was identified, we canceled the old order and initiated the new one. I applied a free shipping upgrade to expedite delivery, ensuring it would arrive before the customers deadline. In the end, they were fully satisfied with the solution.

How To Prepare For An Interview In One Month

People always asked us what I should do to prepare for an interview within several weeks. This post is not teaching you any sort of shortcuts or tricks that let you get offers without efforts, instead we want to help you only focus on things that have huge impact on your preparation, thus compress your preparation time within a month. In addition well recommend only one or two resources in each section since theres no need for you to check a 300 page book or tens of websites.

Pareto principle teaches us that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the efforts, in other words majority of peoples preparation work only have trivial effects on their interview performance. The key to be efficient in preparation is not getting any super secret resources, instead is by eliminating useless effort and be more focused on those 20% work.

After interviewing a lot of Gainlo interviewers, its quite clear that certain preparation patterns/hacks do exist and they can definitely be compressed into weeks. In fact, many of them got their job offers only within 3 weeks preparation. Lets see how those guys including me are using this model and how you can do the same.

Day 0: Make concrete timeline and stick to it

I know its gonna be hard. For student, you may have lots of course work to do. And for employees, you just cant do it during work hour. But you should always figure out some time EVERYDAY. No time is no excuse.

We use depth-first traversal and create a copy of each node while traversing the graph. To avoid getting stuck in cycles, well use a hashtable to store each completed node and will not revisit nodes that exist in the hashtable. The hashtable key will be a node in the original graph, and its value will be the corresponding node in the cloned graph.

Why Do You Want To Work At Amazon

In an ideal case, you should refer to two things in your answer. First one is explaining what you like about Amazon, something that makes the company special in your eyes. But you shouldnt say just that they are the biggest online retailer or a leader in innovation, or that they placed second on the list of best employers in the States. Try to pick something specific that will make your answer stand out.

For example, a certain technology they have in place and youd like to work with, or a certain product, software, platform youd love to help develop, because you see the potential and value for the final customer.

Alternatively you can talk about your loyalty to their brand. You do your shopping with Amazon, you bought their stock when you had some cash, you are a customer of AWS, you self published a book on their platform, etc. Basically you see the huge positive impact Amazon as a company has on your life as a customer, and youd love to work for such an organization, helping other customers to benefit from the services of the company.

The second thing you should refer to is your career plan. What role does the position you try to get with Amazon has in your life? Perhaps you did a similar job, but with the second best companybecause everyone is second best to Amazon. And now you feel ready to work with the best.

They should get an impression that you know exactly why you want to work for Amazon, and not for Google, or for another tech giant

    Amazon 14 Leadership Principles:

It would be impossible to produce results in an environment as dynamic as the Internet without extraordinary people Setting the bar high in our approach to hiring has been, and will continue to be, the single most important element of Amazon. coms success. Jeff Bezos letter to shareholders in 1998, just four years after Amazon was founded already explains why guarding the leadership principles is so critical for AmazonThe above statement perfectly captures Amazons hiring philosophy in a nutshell. Amazon does not hire ordinary. It hires people who Raise the Bar. The company believes that every new employee should increase the average level of productivity on whichever team they join, ensuring that the companys standards get higher and higher as time goes on. This implies that every new person hired through the Amazon interview process should be smarter/better/more qualified than 50% of the people currently in the role. To ensure that this statement holds true, Amazon trains a selected few of its employees to be Bar Raisers in the Amazon interview process.
