An informational interview is a meeting with an employer or professional within a specific industry.

Despite what some may ignore, the arrangement of interview room remains an important aspect toward success in your interviews. Strategizing how to maximize the set up is something we should always consider be it a victim, witness, or subject interview. This strategizing should be done before and throughout the interview. This dynamic applies to criminal investigations, administrative, audits, and any important interactions you intend to have.
When setting up a room for conducting an interview, there are a few basic rules the interviewer should keep in mind. Aside from making the interviewee feel as comfortable as possible, the interview room should also facilitate clear communication, including non-verbal. This means that physical barriers should be minimized between the interviewee that might block the interviewers view of them.
There are good reasons for this. Firstly, a physical barrier, such as a table, can act as a psychological barrier. In a situation in which open communication is sought, putting up barriers obviously goes against the goal. Those barriers serve to diminish the effect of rapport, which is something that must be maximized throughout the interview process.

- The interview dialog box will display for creating the interview information
- You can choose the medium for your interview as well as fill out any necessary details for this type of interview . These options are not direct integrations with these platforms – we provide you with the spot to share these details with your interviewers and candidates once you pick the appropriate option.
- Need to do it via Zoom? Connect Hire and your Zoom account now!
Note – the details are required fields if the interview is marked as “Confirmed” and not required if the interview is marked as “To be confirmed by candidate.”
- Next you can invite your colleagues to the interview! You can invite Trakstar Hire users by simply typing in their name, or you can add non-users by typing in their email address.

While you are waiting for a response, you can prepare specific questions you want to ask them. It may be a good idea to rehearse the questions so that when you are in the informational interview, it sounds more conversational. Prepare questions related to the employees career path to show them your interest in what they do. If you want to know more about the company, you can ask questions about the culture, management, departments and what leaders typically expect from employees.
Ask For The Appropriate Individual
If a receptionist does answer your call, ask for the appropriate individual after you introduce yourself. For example, ask for the interviewer using their first and last name. If the interviewer answers your call, use this step to ensure you are speaking with the correct individual. Here are two examples for each case:
Example:“Hello, I’m Gemma Rutherford, and I’m calling for a scheduled interview for the accounts payable clerical position. May I speak with Jackie Renshaw, please?”
Example:“Hi, this is Gemma Rutherford, and I’m calling for our scheduled phone interview today. Am I speaking with Jackie Renshaw?”
