This Job Would Be So Good For Me Because

This is a trap thats easy to fall into. You want to talk about all of the ways that the role would positively impact your life.

Heres the brutal truth: prospective employers dont care. It might seem selfish or cold-hearted, but they want to know about how youll add value to their companyas opposed to how they can benefit you.

Resist the urge to rant and rave about all of the reasons that job would improve your life, and place the majority of your emphasis on what you bring to the table and how that contributes to any company goals.

Following Up When You Haven’t Heard Back

How To Write A Thank You Email After An Interview & IMPRESS THE INTERVIEWER

The key to a great follow up is being politely persistent without being overbearing.

First, check back to see if the hiring team gave you a timeline. If the recruiter said, we’ll get back to you in a couple of weeks, don’t send a follow up one week later. Respect the timeline, but don’t be afraid to follow up right when it ends.

Set a reminder in your phone or calendar for two weeks!

If you didn’t get a clear timeline, my rule of thumb is to follow up every five business days.

Best Thank You Messages For After An Interview

Here are 30 of the best thank you messages to send after an interview to let the interviewer know you are enthusiastic about the opportunity. There are also messages for after a phone interview and before a formal interview, letting the interviewer know you are looking forward to the interview.

1. Thank you for your time during the interview. I believe I am a great match for the requirements of your position and, if selected, my commitment to you would be to bring my skills, determination, and 110% effort to ensuring your success. I am very excited about the possibility of joining your team.

2. It was a pleasure speaking with you. I can assure you that if you were to offer me the position, you would be hiring someone who is not only extremely proficient at the skills required for the role, but who loves working with people and is committed to delivering quality work always. I would welcome the opportunity to work for you.

3. Very few people can say they enjoy interviews. But I genuinely enjoyed the opportunity to meet you and your team. I appreciated your efforts to clearly explain your requirements, make me feel comfortable, and engage in a professional conversation about what I could bring to the role.

14. I appreciate the chance to interview with you. I am very excited about the possibility of joining your team and confident that my skills are well aligned with the role. I hope I will have the opportunity to work for your company.

Which Is Best Follow

So, you might be asking, which option should I use? Which is best?

In our collective opinion, we recommend an email first, and a letter second. The email is a surefire way to make sure you get seen and can efficiently convey your thoughts about the interview as well as your gratitude.

The letter does this as well, but it really should mostly be used in the most formal of interviews. Think finance and law, not tech and service. However, we cant be there to judge every situation, so use your best judgment, think about the personality of the interviewer and the culture of the company, and pick the best option for you. One word of warning dont pick more than one. Just like giving a gift can seem like too much, an email and a letter can seem like you are kissing up and kind of begging for the job. Choose one option, do it well, and let it be.

I Need To Hear Back From You By

Hopefully, you and the recruiter discussed the hiring timeline during the interview. If you didnt, you might think that the thank-you note is a perfect time to ask when they will make a decision. But its not. It only comes across as rude and desperate. In this case, the best you can do is say, I look forward to hearing from you soon, and wait it out.

If you do have an offer from another company on the table, its polite to let the other employer know and ask when they might have a decision on their end so you can weigh your options. The operative word there is askyou dont want to dole out rude demands.

Highlighting Portions Of The Interview Unique To You

STOP Sending Thank You Letters After a Job Interview

Its always great to create a conversation during an interview, instead of having it be more of a Q& A. Beyond your qualifications, interviewers are gauging if you are a fit for the company culture. If you are able to have an engaging conversation with them outside of interview questions, it shows you are able to get along with people on the team quickly. Whenever you engage in a conversation, it helps you stand out from the pool of candidates. This one sentence is optional but highly recommended. Itll highlight any topic that was discussed in the interview unique to you. Maybe the two of you connected over the same hometown, college, hobby, volunteering service, etc. This is a nice thing to bring up in your follow up email to remind the interviewer of the pleasant time they had speaking with you. Lastly, this sentence could also be blended with the portion on reiterating your interest in the company.

Examples:
I also enjoyed connecting over our time volunteering with the Peace Corps, its been a while since I met someone that also served in Ghana.
It was such a nice surprise to meet a fellow Trojan.
Its great to meet someone that loves plants as much as I do!

Reiterating Interest In The Job And Company And What You Bring To The Table

After thanking the interviewer, express your excitement for learning about the role and company. Reiterate your interest in the job. An interview is a time for the company to see if you are a good fit for the role, but you should also be attentive to learning if you think the company and role is a good fit for you. Not sending a thank you email could be interpreted as a lack of interest in the role. Its also important to align yourself with the companys mission, values, and culture.

Example:
It was a pleasure learning more about the role and company. I love the companys dedication to uplifting the homeless community in Los Angeles, a mission that is close to my heart as I volunteer at the homeless shelter twice a week.
Emphasize what you bring to the table. This is crucial. Now that you have interviewed and have additional context on the role and what they are seeking, you can specifically address how you are a great fit for the role. If they are struggling with sales, discuss your experience with winning sales. If the Marketing Director is struggling to keep up with her workload because of lack of support, discuss your experience with assisting high-level managers and executives.

Send The Email Within 24 Hours

When it comes to sending your thank-you email, dont delay.

Do that within 24 hours, Nelson, the career coach, recommends.

If you interviewed in the morning, send it that afternoon. And if you interviewed in the afternoon, send it the following morning. A prompt note shows that youre responsive, a strong communicator with follow-through and that youre excited about the role.

If you wait two or three days to send it, though, the hiring manager might get a different impression of you that youre slow to respond or not too interested in the position.
