Prince Harry and Meghan Markles prime-time CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey, called Oprah With Meghan and Harry, will also air in Australia.

After the CBS Television Network in the US broadcasts the two-hour interview on Sunday March 7, 8pm ET , the chat will also air on Channel 10 at 7:30pm AEDT on Monday, March 8.

The sit-down interview is anticipated to explain why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex abandoned Britain to start new lives in California.

In a recent promo clip for the interview, Oprah asks Meghan, How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?

I dont know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us, Meghan replied.

Last Tuesday, The Times of London released a report claiming Meghan humiliated and bullied former palace staff who said they were driven out of the household while the duchess was still living in the UK.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said the report was a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation and linked the timing of the article to the Oprah special.

On Racism Within The Royal Family

Meghan was told that Archie would not receive security after he was born and that questions were asked by someone in the royal family about the colour of his skin.

In those months when I was pregnantwe have in tandem the conversation of, you wont be given security, not gonna be given a title and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when hes born.

When asked whether there were concerns that her child would be too brown and that would be a problem, Meghan said: If that is the assumption you are making, that is a pretty safe one.

Meghan refused to say who she had had those conversations with, adding: I think that would be very damaging to them.

The Duke of Sussex added that none of his relatives ever spoke out in support of Meghan following the racism she experienced in the media.

No-one from my family ever said anything over those three years, he said.

That hurts.

I Saw History Repeating Itself Harry Says About The Way Meghan Was Treated

How to watch Harry and Meghans shocking Oprah Winfrey ...

When Harry joined Meghan for their exclusive interview with Oprah, he immediately expressed that he was worried his mother’s story would repeat itself in Meghan. “I saw history repeating itself,” he said.

According to Prince Harry, he saw an intense correlation between his wife and his late mother, something he said was only escalated by racial tensions and social media.

He continued to ask for help, and only considered stepping back from the family when it was clear help wasn’t coming, even to the point where his own father wasn’t answering his calls.

Harry said he and Meghan talked very deeply about stepping back as senior members of the royal family to take a respite from the intense pressure from both the tabloids and the Crown. However, he says he did not blindside the “Firm” but continually discussed his plans with multiple people, including the Queen.

“I never blindsided my grandmother,” Harry said. “I have too much respect for her.”

Why Is This Interview Important

In January 2020, Harry and Meghan announced that they were stepping back from their roles as senior royals in a move that apparently surprised the royal family. And on February 19, 2021, just weeks before the Oprah interview was set to air, the Buckingham Palace announced that Harry and Meghan agreed with Queen Elizabeth II that they will not be returning as working members of the British royal family.

There has been tension between the couple and the palace for years now, and the duo is expected to unveil some revealing details about their experiences.

In a preview clip, Meghan said, “I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.”

How To Watch And Livestream Oprahs Interview With Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

In May 2018, American actress Meghan Markle married Prince Harry, sixth in the line of succession to the British throne an institution with a resolute tradition of patriarchal colonialism and violent, racist conquest that extends over multiple millennia.

It didnt go super well?

I mean, Harry and Meghan seem fine. Baby No. 2 is on the way! They got one of those gonzo nine-figure Netflix deals! They launched a charitable foundation named after extremely cute baby No. 1! They have a sweet house in Montecito, California, down the street from the smart and effervescent Oprah Winfrey, who was a guest at their wedding!

Apparently, the British Royal Family hates this particularly sunny, particularly Californian style of do-gooding, and so Harry and Meghan want to talk it out with their neighbor Oprah for the benefit of us all.

Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special will air Sunday, March 7 at 8 p.m. ET. It will be available on streaming for those who pay for subscription services that include live TV, as well as via the recently launched Paramount+.

The interview will be, on many, many levels, very, very messy. The chat with Oprah will air less than a month after Harry and Meghan officially told Queen Elizabeth that they would not return as working members of the Royal Family after a yearlong trial separation.

I Just Didn’t Want To Be Alive Anymore Meghan Revealed

In a heartbreaking moment, Meghan revealed that she was having “methodical” thoughts about suicide while she was in the royal family.

“That was a very clear and real and frightening thought,” Meghan said. “I couldn’t be left alone.”

According to Meghan, she went to the “Institution,” meaning several senior officials, to receive help for her suicidal thoughts, or to be checked into a hospital, but she was told it wouldn’t be good for optics. After being rebuffed, Meghan said she reached out to one of Princess Diana’s best friends, but continued to have those thoughts, which she called a breaking point.

She also described feeling captive, as her license, passport, and credit cards were taken after her wedding and were unavailable to her.

Clearly emotional, the Duchess said her life in the palace was an example of why people should be kind, since you never know what people are going through “behind closed doors.”

How Did We Get Here

CBC News: The National | Meghan and Harrys Oprah interview Vaccine optimism | March 7, 2021

Normal protocol for someone as high up in the royal family as Harry would be to live in the UK forever, as a working member of the royal family — attending hospital openings, museum exhibits, board meetings, playing bingo with pensioners and generally just supporting Queen Elizabeth II in a quiet yet respectful way. Realistically, with his father Charles, brother William, and William and Kate’s three kids all in line to the throne before him, Harry was never going to rule. And as he made clear to Winfrey, he felt unsupported, and even endangered, by family decisions that he felt were not helping his own family.

You may have heard that Meghan and Harry moved first to Canada, then to California in 2020. In February 2021, after a year trial, Buckingham Palace announced the couple would not return as working members of the royal family, through they would remain “much loved.”

And Meghan and Harry have been busy. In 2020, they signed a deal to develop programming for Netflix, and they’ve also signed a deal with Spotify to produce and host their own podcasts. They’re residing in America now, and Americans gonna America. So the Oprah interview, while not something a regular royal would do, fits right in with what a Hollywood celebrity would take on.

We’ve been building towards this moment since November 2016, when Prince Harry issued a statement calling out the abuse, harassment and racially motivated smears his then-girlfriend had been subjected to on a daily basis by Britain’s gutter media.

The obvious comparison is to the ordeal faced by Princess Diana, Harry’s mother, who lost her life in a car crash while attempting to flee from the paparazzi. What’s especially controversial is much of the backbiting and anti-Meghan sentiment can allegedly be traced back to Kensington Palace, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – who to put it mildly, are not on good terms with Harry and Meghan.

It’s the TV event of the year and no subject is off-limits, so read on as we explain how to watch the Harry and Meghan interview on Oprah online – stream it FREE on-demand from all over the world right now.

Harry Felt Let Down By His Father Prince Charles

Meghan and Harry

Prince Harry spoke openly about his relationship with his father, Prince Charles, and his brother, Prince William. He said there was particular ‘hurt’ where his father is concerned, especially because Charles ‘stopped taking my calls’.

‘I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar, he knows what pain feels like and Archie’s his grandson,’ Harry said.

‘But at the same time, of course I will always love him but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened and I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship.’ He added that he loved William to bits ‘but we were on different paths’.

Harry also said that the pair were cut off financially from the royal family in early 2020. Paying for security is the reason why they have struck lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify and agreed to interviews, such as with Oprah. ‘I’ve got what my mum left me and without that we wouldn’t have been able to do this,’ he said.

Bbc Royal Correspondent Calls Interview Body Blow To Royal Family

BBC News royal correspondent Jonny Dymond called the interview “devastating” and said their revelations are a “body blow” to the royal family.

“It’s not at all clear if and how the palace will respond,” Dymond wrote on BBCNews.com. “Many of the revelations are so personal that getting any reaction seems unlikely. The Queen has made clear repeatedly the affection in which the couple are still held. As for the newspapers that the couple so despise – will they change their tune? It is not in their nature.”

Harry And Meghan Detail Royal Struggles From Discussions Of Baby’s Skin Tone To Suicidal Thoughts

Conversations about “how dark” their baby’s skin tone would be. A rift between Prince Harry and his father so deep that Harry said his father at one point “stopped taking my calls.” And Meghan, Duchess of Sussex saying she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

These were some of the shocking details described by Harry and Meghan in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey, the first they have given since they stepped away from official royal duties last year. They said they would have stayed had they gotten support from the royal family.

In one of the only lighthearted moments, the couple revealed their second child, expected this summer, will be a girl.

But Harry and Meghan spent most of the discussion trying to give their side of many of the tabloid stories that have circulated about them since they got together, including one about how Meghan had once made her sister-in-law, Catherine, cry.

While they had harsh words for their treatment in the press, the most disturbing parts of the interview centered on how they were treated by members of the royal family. Harry said he had a “really good relationship” with the Queen, but said he was “disappointed” by his father and that, while he loves his brother William “to bits,” they’re on “different paths.”

More portions of the interview aired on Monday exclusively on “CBS This Morning.”

Meghans Passport And Drivers Licence

Historian Robert Lacey explained that Meghan handing in her drivers licence would have been a requirement under security rules, as she would not be protected if she went driving by herself. Royal commentators said that her passport would still have been used when she was travelling internationally â only the Queen does not use one â but that it would have been kept with other royals personal documents in a safe and accessible place, which really was routine, and probably anything would be accessible to her if she wanted it.
