  • In the second paragraph, note the company name and a conversation point or goal that seemed important to the interviewer, and connect it to your experiences.

  • In the final paragraph, invite them to ask additional questions and close by saying youre looking forward to hearing back from them.

What You Should Cover In Your Thank You Email

Kelleher recommends, The first thing a candidate should do is express your thanks to the interviewer. After that, Cheung states you must outline what makes you believe that you will be the best candidate for the position. Think about what professors, other employers, and/or fellow students said made you unique and incorporate that information into the letter.

If you think of something you forgot to cover in the interview, you can discuss it in the thank you email. Also be sure to send any additional information the prospective employer requested from you.

40 Thank You Email After Interview Templates á? TemplateLab

Email templates are only as good as the effort you put into filling them out and proofreading them.

Go over every detail and make sure it actually makes sense for your situation. If not, sending that thank you email or letter will do more harm than good.

Example: In the third sample email earlier in this article, it says, thank you for taking the time to meet with me.

If you had a phone interview, you should say, thank you for taking the time to talk on the phone with me.

Right?

Otherwise, its going to sound a bit odd, and they might suspect you just cut & pasted from a template. Not good!

So be careful, take your time with these sample emails, and make sure every single word makes sense.

Why Is It Important To Write A Thank

Its true that some employers expect a thank-you letter after an interview. Its a gesture that reinforces your interest in the role, while also showcasing good manners. When you write a thank-you note after an interview, you gain yet another opportunity to influence your potential employer’s decision. If you write a thank-you note, you can reiterate your interest in and qualifications for the position.

A handwritten thank-you letter offers a personal touch and has the potential to set you apart from other candidates as many people dont mail letters anymore. However, it can take days for a mailed letter to arrive. The hiring process can move quickly so its recommended to always send a thank-you email, even if you decide to also send a handwritten letter. When you email, you can connect with the hiring team much more quickly and influence their decision before they complete the hiring process. Send your thank-you email no more than 24 hours after the interview.

Tip: Be brief. Be polite by asking if theyve looked it over rather than accuse or point out that you havent received it yet. Add value by giving them context for the urgency if needed or urgency about the next steps. Finish with a call to action so they know what you want them to do and why its important.

Dear Mr. Jefferson,

Thank you very much for your time yesterdayit was a pleasure speaking with you about the account executive role. From our conversation, its clear that ABC Inc. has the energetic and hardworking environment Im seeking.

I especially enjoyed discussing your need for someone who can create value and insight during client conversations. Its an interesting challenge, and Ive continued reflecting on it since our meeting. Over the last few years, Ive encountered many of the same roadblocks we discussed: tightening client budgets and lengthy decision-making processes. Prioritizing the quality of the conversation over simple information delivery has been one of my most successful tactics in overcoming those roadblocks and one reason Ive routinely exceeded my quotas.

In my relationships with clients, I focus on building trust and boosting credibility, and Im excited about the prospect of bringing that skill set to ABC Inc. If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me by email or phone.

Thanks again,555-555-5555

How To Write Thank

Most job seekers put a lot of effort into crafting a resume and preparing for an interview. Heres what many people dont spend much time on but should: thank-you emails after interviews.

Its surprising how many job candidates dont bother to send a thank-you note, because it really does make a positive impression on employers. Its a simple step to take, and it can separate you from equally qualified candidates who dont send a thank-you email after an interview. And yes, you should write a thank-you message after a video interview just as you would an in-person meeting.

If the challenge of crafting a great thank-you email is holding you back from sending one, youve come to the right place.

How To Conclude Your Interview Follow

In the sample emails above, youll notice a mix of different ways of signing off and concluding the email. You can choose whichever option sounds natural for you, as some are more formal than others.

Heres a complete list of good, reliable options for how to end your interview follow-up email :

  • Thank you for your time and consideration
  • Sincerely

If youve been exchanging emails with the hiring manager on a first-name basis, you can just sign your email with your first name.

Thank You Email Subject Line

40 Thank You Email After Interview Templates

Make the purpose of your message clear with a formal subject line like the examples below. DO use the whole phrase thank you in the Subject and the message. Do NOT use the informal term thanks. For example:

Subject: Thank you: interview on

Subject: Thank you for the interview on

Subject: Thank you for the interview

Subject: interview on thank you

Replace the text above with the appropriate information for you.

Keep the subject line shorter than 75 characters, if possible. Many email systems show only the first 40 to 50 characters, so keep that in mind when you write your subject.

Avoid seeming to be casual or informal by using a subject such as Hi! or Greetings! or even Thank You! These subjects have two major problems:

  • They do not make the topic of the message clear.
  • They do not look professional.
  • They may be caught in spam filters and never seen by a human.
  • They do not look like you are taking the opportunity seriously.

Send Your Thank You Note From Your Personal Computer

Use your personal desktop or laptop computer to send this message.

Avoid using your smart phone to write and send this message. It is too easy for unintended changes to be made by the software when auto correction fixes the errors it finds. These kind of changes can make you look inept and unable to use something as simple as email.

If you are employed, DO NOT send this message while you are at work or using your work computer.

If employed and using your employers equipment or network to send your message, your employer may discover the message and your intentions to leave. The result is that you could have a very uncomfortable discussion with your boss about your job search, or you could lose your job.

When And To Whom You Should Send Thank You Emails

Hiring managers recommend you send a thank you email quickly.

Jeff Kelleher, Talent Management Specialist at Combined Insurance, states, My suggested rule of thumb is to send a thank you email within 48 hours of your interview.

Vienne Cheung, a Partner at Motu Novu in Boston, recommends that you send an interview follow-up email within 24 hours: For me, I read that as a candidate that is eager to work with us.

Make sure you either send emails to everyone you met or reference the other people in the thank you email to the hiring manager.

Gretchen Skalka, a Senior Manager at TBC Corporation, notes, The hiring manager usually puts some thought, some strategy behind the selection of people to co-interview. It also shows that they were paying careful attention to the entire room and content of the interview, and not simply focusing on the hiring manager.

Why You Should Send One

A thank you email after an interview makes a positive impression on hiring decision makers. Heres data to help you understand just how much a thank you note means.

  • 68% of recruiters/hiring managers say a thank you email after the interview matters

And theres another reason to write a thank you after your interview. Its the polite thing to do.

Sending someone a thank you may not be a normal activity for you, but the interviewer did invest their time to meet with you and that is worthy of saying thanks. You are being polite and showing respect.

And theres one final reason to send a thank you. Your note provides you with one more opportunity, perhaps the last one, to remind the interviewer that you are very interested in the job and are indeed the right candidate.

Here are three points you want to address in the thank you letter you send after your interview:

  • Your interest in the role
  • Your fit with the company
  • The value you will deliver if hired

Additionally, sending a thank you helps make you memorable. Believe it or not, very few candidates send them!

When an organization interviews lots of people, it is very easy for them to mix candidates up or forget specifics. Your thank you helps remind them who you are!

If you havent heard back after checking in, or you found out you didnt get the job, you can still email the hiring manager explaining how youd love to stay in touch. The goal of this email is to establish a relationship and for them to keep you in mind and help you grow.

Just like the post-interview check in email, this one is short and sweet.

  • Send this email to the hiring manager.
  • Thank them for their time and consideration in the interview stage.
  • After addressing them, mention what it is about them that you find interesting or inspirational.
  • Limit this email to one to two paragraphs and include a proposed time to meet for a call or for coffee.
