Lesson : The Devil Seeks To Make Us Permanent Drifters Never Getting Around To What Were Meant To Do In Life
Once he starts drilling the devil for the most common fears he uses against man, Hill quickly finds he has even cleverer ways of ruining us. The devil claims to first invade our minds with the principle of habit in order to then establish the habit of drifting.
Heres what drifting is, straight from the horses mouth:
I can best define the word drift by saying that people who think for themselves never drift, while those who do little or no thinking for themselves are drifters.
A drifter is the antithesis of a Stoic. Drifters let themselves be tossed around in life and allow externals to dominate their minds. They go nowhere because theyre not using their brains to think.
Later in the book, Hill explains how drifting eventually turns into a hypnotic rhythm, which keeps people busy with trivialities, and over time, drifting becomes permanent.
Unless we outwit the devil, that is.
Outwitting The Devil Review
What a creative approach for writing a book, especially considering its time. Even 80 years after it was written, Outwitting The Devil shines with simple ideas, packaged in stories we can understand, and repeated in fun ways so they stick. Napoleon Hill may have been a controversial figure, but in his writing, I sense he had his fellow citizens best interests at heart.

Delighted To Talk About Sylvester
MATT: Im delighted to talk about Sylvester
JK: Had you ever read a Georgette Heyer novel before recording Sylvester?
MATT: Im ashamed to say Sylvester was my first Heyer, but Ive since read 3 more. A friend of mine is a huge fan of her books, so I was very much aware of them.
JK: If not, did you have any preconceived ideas about the book?
MATT: I had previously narrated two Regency Romances, that I knew were written by an author whos a great admirer of Heyer, and who writes with a similar style meticulously researched, witty & sophisticated, which I greatly enjoyed reading The Devil You Know and Bless Thine Inheritance by the wonderful Sophia Holloway. I dont think I was expecting Sylvester to be quite as entertaining as I found it to be, or for the characters to be as fully realised as they are.
JK: Were you surprised when you read Sylvester? What did you think of the book?
MATT: Its always a delight to find that you enjoy reading a title youve been booked for, and to find yourself wanting to know what happens next. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that I immediately felt an affinity with both Sylvester and Phoebe.
JK: You did a wonderful job creating the different characters through their voices. Was that difficult to do? Is it hard for a man to do female voices?
JK: How long does it take to record a novel like Sylvester?
JK: Whats the biggest challenge in recording an audio book?

Outwitting The Devil Pdf Summary
A New World
Napoleon Hill is renowned for his endeavors in the pursuit of truth and finding the formula for success.
In 1908, he met Andrew Carnegie and expressed a desire to enroll in Law School.
Mr. Carnegie was surprised to hear that Hill planned to get his degree by interviewing successful people and writing their stories in magazines.
Mr. Carnegie pointed out that if he wants to be of service to all people, and posterity as well, he must also underline the causes for failure.
The world is in need of a practical and philosophical explanation of achievement and loss.
If you are eager to undertake this job, you must interview not only those who succeeded but also those who have failed.
A real wake-up call for young Napoleon.
Ambition, without the courage and knowledge, is like a boat on dry land.
In the following years, Napoleon managed to interview approximately 25,000 people , and around 500 .
During that time, he also became aware of the concept of an emergency.
Mr. Carnegie taught him that somewhere along the path, hed get a glimpse on how peoples habits change in case of crisis or tension.
And that was the missing link in his research.
It all was predicated on the fact that any emergency will lead to an opportunity. Its safe to say that at the end of the research Napoleon had his Eureka moment.
The faith yet again rests on your shoulders.
Do you know that the darkest hour is just before the dawn? Dont give up, even when things get unbearably difficult.

Who Should Read Outwitting The Devil And Why
The concept of a mystical dark force is often misunderstood.
Napoleon Hill dismantles many assumptions and depicts the Devil as the negative voice in our heads.
With this in mind, its crystal clear as to why we find Outwitting the Devil to be a good fit for the broader audience.
Society, in general, suffers from this evil force, and its time to put an end to the delusions.

Dublin, 1962. Within the gated grounds of the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Redemption lies one of the city’s Magdalen Laundries. Once places of refuge, the laundries have evolved into grim workhouses. Some inmates are “fallen” women – unwed mothers, prostitutes, or petty criminals. Most are ordinary girls whose only sin lies in being too pretty, too independent, or tempting the wrong man. Among them is 16-year-old Teagan Tiernan, sent by her family when her beauty provokes a lustful revelation from a young priest.
