Try To Be Conventional

Its important to be memorable at your interview, but youd rather be remembered as the one who goes skydiving at weekends, than as the one in the bright red shirt. Give yourself the best chance by dressing in a way thats simple, understated and traditional. Opt for dark grey or navy, and only play with things like pinstripes if youre 100% sure you know what youre doing.

Always bring more than one copy of your resume to your job interview. A good rule of thumb would be to bring four to five copies, as you may be interviewed by multiple people.     Youd be surprised how many times throughout my career Ive gone on job interviews where hiring managers didnt even have a copy of my résumé – or the application I had already submitted. This recently happened to a client and, thankfully, he had several extra résumé copies hed printed and brought with him.

    Here is a list of the most important items you should bring to job interviews, because you never know what will happen or if youll be offered the job after your discussion:

    Copies of your résumé. I always recommend bringing four-five copies because you never know when things will go so well that the hiring manager will have you interview with others from the department or with the hiring managers boss. They might also ask you to leave one or two copies for HR personnel. Its always best to have more copies than youll need.

    Copies of your reference list. Same here – bring four to five copies.

    Drivers license. Your drivers license is a picture identification document. You will most likely need this if you are offered the position and asked to fill out the HR paperwork after the interview.
