The Dysfunctional Vampire Family
Stan Winston handled the vampire makeup and effects for “Interview with the Vampire,” and he reportedly had the actors hang upside down like bats so he could trace the blue veins on their forehead better. Rice was famously against Cruise’s casting , but this only caused him to double down and read her books closer to understand his character better.
In the movie, Lestat comes across as a Satanic and Byronic hero. Claudia even calls him the “father of lies.” To Louis, his fellow fallen angel, he gives arch pep talks like:
“Evil is a point of view. God kills indiscriminately, and so shall we. For no creatures under God are as we are. None so like him as ourselves.”
Louis and Lestat aren’t exactly the picture of domestic bliss, and that’s kind of the point. For as much as it might be queer-coded, “Interview with the Vampire” is also a movie about the difficulty of living together as a family unit. In the book, it’s the loss of his saintly brother the personification of his faith that leaves Louis unmoored, guilt-ridden, and wishing for death before he’s “born to darkness.” He and Lestat share a coffin, the vampire equivalent of a bed, where they sleep one on top of the other.
Kirsten Dunst Had Her First On
Most actors don’t get to have their first kiss on film until they’re at least teenagers, but Kirsten Dunst had her first kiss at the age of 11 as the vampire Claudia in Interview with a Vampire. That kiss was with Brad Pitt.
Considering that most actresses would have loved to have kissed Pitt at the time, it’s funny that Dunst referred to that kiss as “disgusting.” She told the IB Times: He had this long hair. He was just a hippie-ish cool dude. Everyone at the time was like, Youre so lucky you kissed Brad Pitt, but I thought it was disgusting. I didnt kiss anyone else until I was 16, I think. I was a late bloomer.”
On Other Critics And The Critical Response To This Film
As for TIME and NEWSWEEK, I think we as readers and film lovers have to reconcile ourselves to the fact that these publications have become virtuallyworthless in covering books and film. The magazines are obviously fighting a losing battle with television and computer networks, but they aren’t putting up much of a fight. Their reviewers seem shallow, stupid, and unforgivably uninformed. Let’s kiss them good-bye.
TIME and NEWSWEEK, you no longer play a significant role in covering the news surrounding the arts, or in covering the arts themselves. You could turn this around. You could start writing reviews which are actually intelligent essays you could return to commentary with perspective and validity you could do your homework on the context of the films and books you review. Eh. I’ve given up on you.
The success of INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE is only one of many, many proofs that these magazines are no longer major cultural players. It is sad.

For as popular as Tom Hiddleston is now, not many people are familiar with Only Lovers Left Alive . The film follows a vampire couple who has been together for centuries now. After Adam begins to sink into a depression, his wife Eve does her best to comfort him, until the arrival of Eves sister throws things off course for the couple once again.

Only Lovers Left Alive also balances a unique brand of humor, but is, at its heart, still a romance above all else. Similarly to Interview With The Vampire, Only Lovers Left Alive takes a bit more of a serious approach to vampires, without delving too far into the horror aspects. If fans are looking for a unique take on the popular creatures, they are likely to find it in both films.
Louis And Lestat’s Relationship
Louis feels great hatred for Lestat from the very beginning of the book. Louis and Lestat even go through long periods of not speaking to one another. Louis feels anger for letting Lestat turn him into a vampire, and harbors a lot of resentment as he waits out eternity. In the movie, though, their relationship is portrayed as less strained, and as more of a brotherhood that has its ups and downsthough, of course, the downs are a larger focus for dramatic emphasis.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Many people werent expecting Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to be as good as it was. As another adaptation of a book, original author Seth Grahame-Smith took President Lincolns journal and interlaced vampires within, making it into a whole new story.

The film version is much more action-packed than Interview With The Vampire, but is set in a similar time and still offers enough of a different take on vampires to still be interesting. For a more interesting take on vampires, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is certainly not to be missed.

The role of the reporter, Daniel Molloy, did not always belong to Christian Slater. Actor River Phoenix was the first choice for the role, but Phoenix passed away tragically before filming ever began.

The first way the movie deviates from the book can be spotted early on. In the beginning of the movie, Louiswho is described to be a Spanish lord, though in the book he is actually Frenchis distraught by the death of his wife and daughter. In his grief, Lestat finds him and ask if he would like to be turned into a vampire. Louis agrees, and is turned. In the book, the reasons for Louis’s grief is differentit’s his brother Paul’s passing that leaves him bereft and vulnerable.

Amc’s ‘interview With The Vampire’ Series Is Less Horror And More Gothic Romance
“I want to write a very excitable, aggressive, toxic, beautiful love story.”
AMC has gone all in on Anne Rice, buying the rights to adapt her books into original series for the network and their streaming app, AMC+. The first to debut, on Oct. 2, is Interview With the Vampire from Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series. At Wednesday’s Television Critics Association virtual press day for AMC, Interview With the Vampire showrunner Rolin Jones clarified the network’s Rice ambitions to reporters, including SYFY WIR).
“AMC has bought all of the books and AMC wants to make all of the books,” Jones explained, adding that Season 1 of Interview will cover half of the story laid out in Rice’s Interview with the Vampire novel, which implies the ongoing saga of seasons could be quite large considering there are 13 novels in the Chronicles book series alone.
As for Jones’ approach to adapting the book as a series, he shifted the book’s timeline from 1791 in Louisiana to the heyday of the famed New Orleans Storyville red light district right at the turn of the 20th century. He said when he was tasked by AMC to pitch his take, they asked for the interviews between Louis de Lac and the reporter Daniel Molloy to happen in our now, and for the series to look “big and grand.”

Relationships With Other Characters
Despite his charisma, Lestat is portrayed as a lonesome individual. In his childhood, the only member of his family whom he had any connection with was his mother, Gabrielle. She is the only member of the family who could read, and she often immersed herself in novels, neglecting the mundane life around her. Lestat both admires and hates her for this, yet he is the only person of her family she can confide in they develop a silent but strong bond. For this very reason Lestat makes a dying Gabrielle his first vampire companion when she comes to Paris in search of her son, wishing to see him before she succumbs to consumption.
Another fledgling and long-term companion is Louis de Pointe du Lac. Louis is from a family who emigrated from France to North America when he was very young, he is described as young beautiful man like an angel with “fine black hair” and deep green eyes, whom Lestat turns into a vampire in 1791. For many years, Lestat and Louis live, travel, and kill together. Though Louis claims that Lestat made him into a vampire because Lestat merely wanted his fortune, Lestat refutes these claims in the following novel. He points out that he was heir to a vast fortune well before meeting him, and says that he “fell fatally in love with Louis”, who reminded him of Nicki.

Anne Rice Admitted She Was Wrong About Tom Cruise
Although Rice initially hated Cruise’s casting as Lestat in the movie, the actor proved the author wrong. After Rice saw the film, she admitted that Cruise made an excellent Lestat.
She even took out ads in several publications praising the movie, its cast, and production.
She went so far as to call Cruise on the phone and tell him how wonderful he was, as well as how wrong she had been to criticize him so much early on.
Producer David Geffen said to the LA Times: “She even phoned up and told him she was wrong. It’s a great thing when someone who had been critical of a movie saw it, loved it and admitted she was wrong… a very classy thing to do.”
New Trailer For Amcs Interview With The Vampire Addresses Toxic Relationships
Despite the fact that its based on a pretty famous book that was previously adapted into a pretty famous movie, the San Diego Comic-Con trailer for AMCs new Interview With The Vampire series seemed to present two of its biggest plot points as spoilers: For one thing, there wasnt a ton of explicit vampire stuff, or at least there wasnt much of Sam Reids Lestat, and the reveal of the actual interview framing device didnt come in until a post-credits stinger of sorts.
This new teaser jumps right to the vampires, the interviews, and the romantic, tortured existence that Anne Rices vampires know so well. Its a short promo, but theres also a good bit of Lestat and a lot more of Bogosian, who fully does not buy Louis insistence that being a vampire who must constantly cater to the whims of the charismatic Lestat is actually good and sexy. Louis says that he and Lestat were equals in the quiet dark, but Bogosians Daniel notes that it was still an abused/abuser relationship.

Interview With The Vampire Will Work In Elements From The Vampire Lestat
The pressure is definitely on, in part because the show is changing a lot about the books, which is making fans nervous. Louis and Lestat’s relationship begins a couple centuries later than it does in the book, and Daniel Molloy that’s the interviewer who interviews the vampire is older, and is actually interviewing Louis for the second time in his career. That’s an odd one.
“I love the film. I love Tom Cruise’s performance in the movie, too,” said Reid. “But what we get to do is, when Anne wrote the second book, she sort of broke the character open a little bit and you understand a little bit more, brings in more backstory. And so, that’s what we’ve done.”
I get to bring in all these fantastic elements that she sort of talks about in the books that you don’t really get to see in the movie because there’s only two hours and because it’s more based on that original book and we’re sort of looking at the whole universe. So, it’s super exciting.
Now, that actually sounds more amenable to me if they’re making a whole TV show out of “Interview With The Vampire,” it would make sense to include some of the backstory we get in “The Vampire Lestat,” since the title character is such an important part of the plot. I’ll remain optimistic
