Before You Send Proofread Everything
Email templates are only as good as the effort you put into filling them out and proofreading them.
Go over every detail and make sure it actually makes sense for your situation. If not, sending that thank you email or letter will do more harm than good.
Example: In the third sample email earlier in this article, it says, thank you for taking the time to meet with me.
If you had a phone interview, you should say, thank you for taking the time to talk on the phone with me.
Otherwise, its going to sound a bit odd, and they might suspect you just cut & pasted from a template. Not good!
So be careful, take your time with these sample emails, and make sure every single word makes sense.
Should I Handwrite A Thank You After An Interview
interviewhandwritten thank youinterviewsthank youinterviewhandwritten
. Besides, should you send a handwritten thank you after an interview?
One way to send a handwritten letter and get it to the person quickly is to write it on the spot and have it hand-delivered. âA handwritten thank you left immediately after the interview can differentiate one candidate from the others,â Smith says.
Additionally, how soon after an interview should I send a thank you? Send the message soon after the interview, preferably within the first 24 hours, even if the interview was on a Friday . You don’t want to be that last interviewee to send a thank you, in case other candidates are also smart enough to send thank you messages.
Beside above, what should you write in a thank you card after an interview?
Thank you very much for the opportunity to interview for the position of yesterday . I enjoyed speaking with you, meeting other members of the staff, and the opportunity to learn more about this position. I am very interested in this position and the opportunity to join your team.
What is proper etiquette after a job interview?
After your job interview, the first follow-up should be a thank you note preferably a handwritten letter sent through the mail, which is more likely to be read, but an email on time is better than nothing. You should always send a note to every person you interviewed with, no later than 24 hours after the interview.
The Benefits Of Sending A Thank
Sending a thank-you email has a couple of important advantages over the old-fashioned, paper-and-ink variety of thank-you letter.
With an email, for example, you can do more than remind your prospective employer of your qualities and skills: You can actually show them by including a link to your online portfolio, , or professional social networking profiles.
You’ll also have the opportunity to mention anything you wish you had said during the interview, but didn’t get the chance to discuss.
Sending an email immediately after or within 24 hours of a job interview is crucial if the hiring manager will be making a quick decision.
Ideally, your note will reach the interviewer prior to a hiring decision and while your meeting is still top of mind.

Is It Best To Send A Thank You Email Or A Note/letter
I get asked this frequently: Whats your opinion on sending a thank you email, versus mailing a thank you letter after your interview?
For most people, I recommend email. There are three reasons why:
However, in specific cases, you may want to send a thank you letter in the mail after an interview.
A paper thank you note/letter might be better if youre in a very traditional industry . Or if youre interviewing for a very high-level position .
But for most job seekers, I recommend sending a thank you email.
One more option to consider: You can write a personalized thank you card and then send a picture of it digitally, either in a LinkedIn message or in an email. Thats a good way to stand out and give a more personalized feel to a digital message.

Judging Based On Personal Preferences
As humans, we tend to like people who share our personal preferences and interests, such as music, sports, television shows, lifestyle choices and other behaviors that aren’t relevant to the job.
While interviewing, keep in mind that liking the same TV shows is not related to job performance. Interviewers should not let “being like me” unconsciously sway their judgment. Remain as objective and focused on the job qualifications as you can, especially while determining if the candidate is a good culture fit. This is where it can be helpful to have multiple interviewers speak to the same candidate you can all compare your thoughts on personality and culture fit to reach an objective decision.

When Is The Best Time To Send Your Thank You
This is a question I get a lot.
When it comes to following up with hiring managers, posting articles on social media, or sending breaking news to a contact, timing is everything and there is a science behind it.
When it comes to thank you notes, the golden rule is simple:
The Best Time To Send Your Thank You Note
Send your thank you as quickly as you can while still allowing yourself enough time to craft a quality email.
If you’re a numbers person, shoot for 30 minutes 2 hours after the interview, but don’t pull your hair out if you can’t get it out until later in the day. Life gets in the way and it’s far more important to send it later then not send it at all.

Write a thank-you email after your job interview.
Showing your gratitude is always a good look, especially during a job search. This means promptly thanking your interviewers. A thank-you email after an interview is the most popularand acceptedmethod of following up with your potential future employers. Too bad three out of four job seekers dont even bother sending a thank-you, according to an Accountemps survey of human resources managers. The survey found that only 24% of HR managers receive thank-you notes from applicants. However, 80% of HR managers say thank-you notes are helpful when reviewing candidates.
Whether it’s a physical letter or an email, this token of appreciation could actually determine if you get the job. Sending a well-crafted and timely thank-you letter after an interview can add a positive impression to an already positive connection, says Jennifer McClure, president of Unbridled Talent, a Cincinnati firm specializing in talent acquisition, recruiting, and staff development.
These guidelines can tell you how to write a thank-you note after your job interview.
When And How To Send Your Note
There is a sweet spot for timing when you send your message. You don’t want it to arrive too soon or too late, which is why King says you need to send it within the 24-to 48-hour-period after an interview.
“You don’t want to send it too quickly and the manager to feel like it is generic or was drafted before the interview. It’s really important to take some time and reflect on the interview and what was discussed so you can add elements from the conversation into your thank-you note,” says King. “Wait too long to send it and the manager is going to think you’re not eager or really interested in the role. The note won’t have the same meaning.”
No matter the kind of interview, be it in-person or via the phone or Skype, send a thank-you note following up with each person you met. And if you have multiple interviews with the same company, send new notes following each round.
“This is why customizing and tailoring is important. You don’t want to be sending the same note every time,” says King.
Almost all, 94%, of HR managers say it’s appropriate to send a thank-you note via email, according to that same Accountemps survey.
Occasionally, you may need to go old-school and snail-mail it. But that largely depends on the culture of the place you’re applying to, how formal and traditional it is, and how you’ve corresponded in the past. If they’ve emailed you, you’re fine emailing. If they reached out by phone or mail, consider putting yours in the post.

That was part of a reply I received to a post-interview thank you email I wrote to a VP of sales. Four hours after receiving that reply, I got a call from the recruiter offering me a job.
A month after I was hired, I had a one-on-one with that VP and the first question she asked me was about the books we recommended to each other.
Leading up to the thank you email, we had spent 40 minutes on the phone together talking through introductions, behavioral questions, and case studies to see if I was a good fit for the role. While that conversation factored into the decision, my answers weren’t what stood out in her mind.
It was the personal touch that stuck.

This is the most formal of the three thank you notes weve looked at.
Even the greeting is formal- Dear instead of Hello.
Of course, you can adjust the tone/greeting in any of these thank you note samples.
You could also take pieces from each example and combine them, or add more customization.
So if you like one, but feel its not formal enough, you can make adjustments. However, in most modern industries, you should be careful not to sound too stiff/formal. Your note should sound genuine.
What would you say if you were standing there, thanking them in-person? Writing out a thank you note isnt much different! Most people write very differently than they talk, and quite often thats a mistake.
Do Interviewers Respond Back To A Thank You Note
Consider it a merger, of sorts, between good manners and proper business etiquette. Sending a prospective employer a thank-you note following an interview is also one of the best gestures you can make to stand out from the competition. It should rank highly on your to-do list.
Of course, this follow-up gesture doesn’t guarantee a response, but you can do all you can to mitigate this frustration by understanding a note’s value, learning how to write an effective one and knowing how to conduct yourself if you become ghosted.
