What Footage Does Your Video Contain

Choosing soft classical music over some BMX stunt visuals probably isnt going to work as well as something like a powerful electronic and high-energy track like our popular track Drive. If you have fast visuals, then fast-paced / high energy music is more likely to fit better. Likewise, if you have some slow moving visuals like a shot of a couple in love walking on the beach, it makes sense to use tracks like On the Shoreline as it will fit much more nicely with your visuals. Again, using the filters on the Find Music page will help you find a good fit.

Choose Subtle Background Music For Interviews

You dont want music to overcrowd the rest of your audio, particularly when there is a voice over or interviews. Using the track Successful Venture, Prostar & Knight Transportation have nicely combined a subtle background track that ebbs and flows in the background while their interviewees talk. Its unobtrusive yet uplifting and helps move the interview along nicely:

What Aspects Do You Have To Take Into Account When Selecting The Appropriate Background Music

Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to choose a type of music for your interviews, but the best thing is to try not to make a random decision, not very thoughtful neither too personal.

Have in mind that the tastes are very diverse, so you probably will not be able to satisfy the musical interests of all your audience.

There are many aspects to take into account in the choice of one musical genre or another:

  • Adequacy with the journalistic format of the interview.
  • Tuning with the protagonists .
  • Compatibility with the choice of subject.
  • Match the type of emotion sought.

In addition, there are other factors and one of them is volume. This should be loud enough so that the music is heard, but also low enough so that it does not disturb or make it difficult for the audience to try to listen to the conversation between the interviewer and the interviewee.

The recommended volume levels in general terms are:

  • Between 0 and -6 dB for the human voice.
  • Between -16 and -20 dB for music.

Synchronising Can Be Powerful

Of course, take this with a pinch of salt as you can overdo it, but by syncing video and audio together you can create a very pleasing and engaging effect. Choosing music that has clear downbeats and breaks in it makes this easier of course and if you use the music as a guide for editing , then your video can come alive. Its a bit like dancing to music, its much more satisfying if you do it in time! Heres one of my favourites by Daft Punk.

Where Can I Find Music For A Video

How can finding music be a challenge? I mean, music is everywhere, right? I have 70 GB of music on my iPhone right now. Ill just use some of that music.

Wouldnt it be nice if it were that easy?

Unfortunately, most of the music you own is effectively off-limits. That music is copyrighted and, if you use it, youll owe the copyright owner money for every time someone views your video.

Ever wonder why restaurants always seem to have their own birthday song rather than just singing Happy Birthday To You when its your birthday? Same reason. Someone actually owned the rights to that song until 2016 and restaurants would have had to pay royalties every time it was sung in their restaurants.

So where do you find the music you can use? Well, unless you want to compose your own music, the easiest answer lies in royalty-free music.

To Fade Or Not To Fade

You shouldnt be forced to choose one or the other , but how you end your video is just as important as how you start your video. Choose music that has an ending that is easy to edit and ends things nicely so you have the option when you start editing your video.

Add Your Media To The Timeline

Once youve imported your file, find it in the media bin, click on it, then drag and drop it to the timeline. You can add it to a new track or add it to an existing track depending on your needs. I typically add things to new tracks by default so theyre easier to find later.

If no empty track is available, Camtasia automatically creates a new track if you drag your file to the open area above the timeline.

The Reasons For Placing Background Music In Your Interview

What is the duration of your interview? Ten minutes? Half an hour?

In any case, imagine what an interview would be without any musical element, especially in the moments of opening and closing.

The world of interviews is changing, and not only should they inform the public about a certain topic, but they should also entertain them.

These new interview models base their entertainment on showing a more informal format in which not only the protagonists are those can who feel most comfortable, but also the audience.

It is in this scenario where music plays an important role.

This can have numerous effects on the reception of an interview by the public, lets see what they are:

As you probably know, most music is protected by the so-called copyrights, which means that you must be very careful when it comes to obtaining this type of music, otherwise you could have several problems.

In order to avoid legal problems or platforms like Youtube to detect that you are using some music of which you do not have the corresponding rights, you have two options:

  • Request the record company the commercial use of the songs that you want to use.
  • Acquire the corresponding licenses through institutions or companies dedicated specifically to it.
  • Logically, the first option is very unfeasible, either because you will not receive any answer or because they will ask you in exchange for an exorbitant amount of money. Therefore, if we choose the second way we find:

How Do I Choose The Right Music For A Video

Theres a difference between adding music and adding the right music. Before you choose your music, think about what type of video youre creating. For a video showing software or product features, youll probably want something upbeat and positive.

You want your viewers to feel good when theyre seeing your product. Other types of videos may need something more somber. Who can forget the various animal rescue commercials that are all over our TVs?

They pair sad, slow music with photos of sad-looking animals to compound the experience and they hope make us more likely to open our wallets to donate.

Not convinced yet? Trying imagining one of those rad videos of skateboarders thrashing out in a skate park with pan flute music instead of grungy guitars.

The right music enhances the experience for your viewers, while the wrong music can send the wrong message entirely.

Why Should I Add Music To My Video

First, lets admit that not all videos need music. Quick screencasts to show a colleague how to log into the new HR software or how to access their archived emails probably dont need a soundtrack.

But, if youre going to put something out for public consumption, its likely a little music can help make the video more engaging. Even if you just put a little bit at the beginning and end of your video, it helps make your video more interesting.

In fact, nearly 50% of the videos identified in our research Video Viewer Habits, Trends, And Statistics you Need to Know as being great had background music.

Thats a pretty strong indicator that music can add something special to your video.

Adjust The Audio To Fit Your Needs

News Banner Template Media Tv Interview Stock Vector (Royalty Free ...

Heres where youll need to make some decisions . Do you want your music to run through your whole video? Is it just for the intro or the outro?

For this example, lets assume that we want to have the audio run throughout the entire video. Since there will be narration, well want to make sure the music isnt so loud that it makes the narration difficult to hear or understand.

When you select the audio track in the timeline, a line with shading will appear. To adjust the volume, you can click on the line and drag it up or down to the desired level. The waveform in the track grows and shrinks as you adjust the volume up and down, letting you know that the volume has been adjusted.

In the Audio Effects menu, there are additional options for adjusting audio. For example, adding a Fade Out at the end of your video clip can help avoid a potentially jarring abrupt ending.

Now that you know how to add music to a video, try playing around with it the next time you create a video. These were just a few basic steps to get you started, but there are a lot of other ways to edit audio to fit your needs.
