Prince Harry, Meghan reveal struggles behind royal rift in Oprah interview

After a hectic week for the royal family, Oprah conducted a landmark interview with Prince Harry & Meghan Markle. Here’s where you can watch.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey, and viewers in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom will all be able to watch.

Prince Harry participated in a lighthearted interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden last week, but the interview with Oprah is particularly consequential in that Harry and Meghan will appear together for the first time since stepping down as senior royals last year. Oprah had previously met Meghan upon a visit to Kensington Palace several years ago, and proposed an interview to take place in either February or March of 2018. Obviously, that never came to fruition, but Oprah and the Duchess of Sussex remained close, and will now bring their relationship to the masses in the wake of a hectic few weeks for the royal family.

Meghan has already expressed her frustration with the lack of privacy afforded by life as a senior royal. She and Harry decided to step down from the positions, and Oprah was even accused of advising in that decision. Oprah denied any such allegations, but she and the couple will likely address this and much more when the interview airs. Here is where viewers in the U.S., Canada, and UK will be able to watch this bombshell television event.

What Does This Interview Mean For Cbs

Oprah’s interview with Harry and Meghan is a valuable piece of content, CNN’s Chief Media Correspondent Brian Stelter wrote. It was created by Oprah’s production company, Harpo Productions, and sold by ViacomCBS to television networks around the world.

None of the parties involved have commented on the financial stakes, but CBS is paying a license fee between $7 million and $9 million for the rights to air the interview, the Wall Street Journal reported. CBS and other broadcasters should be able to command premium pricing for ads during the special.

Clips From Meghan And Harry’s Highly

Teaser clips have already been released of the interview, including one in which Markle told Oprah it was “liberating” to finally be able to speak for herself after leaving the royal family.

“I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there’s an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” she added. “And if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean, there’s a lot that has been lost already.”

Harry Says He Is Disappointed By His Father

In a particularly revealing moment, Harry revealed that he will always love his father, Prince Charles, but he is “disappointed” by him. As for his brother, Prince William, Harry said he “loves him to bits” but “we’re on different paths.”

Harry started out by saying they had never planned to make the Netflix and Spotify deals, but the royal family “literally cut me off financially” in the first quarter of 2020.

He said he thought his mother “saw it coming.”

“I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself. It’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we have each other,” Harry said.

As for the rest of his family, he said he has spoken more this year to his grandmother than he has “in many, many years” and they have a “really good relationship.”

When asked about his father, Harry paused. He said his father is now taking his calls, but “there’s a lot to work through there.”

Harry said “much will continue” to be said about his relationship with William.

“As I’ve said before, I love William to bits he’s my brother and we’ve been through hell together and we have a shared experience but we’re on different paths,” Harry said.

Harry said he “never going to share” more about the conversation about Archie’s skin tone, only saying it was “right at the beginning.”

Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.

Winfrey said there was no subject thats off limits in the interview.

On Friday, CBS This Morning aired a clip with the pair discussing Winfreys call to Meghan to ask for an interview prior to her wedding.

In 2018, the duchess told Winfrey its not the right time.

But Meghan said so many things had changed since then.

At the beginning of last year, Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping back as senior Royals on social media, with the couples resignation as working Royals being formalised last month.

We have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldnt have said yes to you then that wasnt my choice to make, Meghan said.

So, as an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that is different than I think what people imagine it to be its really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege, in some ways, to be able to say yes Im ready to talk.

To be able to make a choice on your own and just be able to speak for yourself.

A few days ago, another preview clip featured the duchess being asked how she felt about the palace hearing her speak out.

And if that comes with risk of losing things I mean, theres a lot thats been lost already.

Meghan Says Kate Made Her Cry In Bridesmaid Dress Incident Not The Reverse

Oprah asked Meghan about an incident reported in the British tabloids that her sister-in-law Catherine made her cry. But Meghan said the situation was actually the reverse.

According to Meghan, Catherine was the one who made Meghan cry about flower girl dresses, and Catherine apologized later and brought her flowers and a note.

However, the tabloid rumors were just some of many unfavorable headlines toward Meghan that she says were constructed to fit into a polarizing narrative of a hero and a villain.

While Meghan refused to speak unfairly about Catherine since she said she has forgiven her, she did make it a point to acknowledge that everyone in the royal family knew the true story and chose not to tell it.

Prince Harry and Meghan sit down for a chat with Oprah.

Oprah’s headline-making interview of American-born Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, and her husband, Prince Harry, was nothing less than explosive, and it continues to reverberate days later.

In the Sunday interview, Meghan said she endured “constant” suicidal thoughts and that no one in the palace would help her. She and Harry said a royal family member expressed concern about how dark baby Archie’s skin color might be. Harry said his father, Prince Charles, wouldn’t take his phone calls for a while, and cut him off from royal money. The two said the palace cut them off from royal protection despite death threats, some based on Meghan being biracial. It was a grim two-hour recitation that sent “American Twitter” raring to fight “British Twitter” after it was over.

How To Watch And Livestream Oprahs Interview With Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

In May 2018, American actress Meghan Markle married Prince Harry, sixth in the line of succession to the British throne an institution with a resolute tradition of patriarchal colonialism and violent, racist conquest that extends over multiple millennia.

It didnt go super well?

I mean, Harry and Meghan seem fine. Baby No. 2 is on the way! They got one of those gonzo nine-figure Netflix deals! They launched a charitable foundation named after extremely cute baby No. 1! They have a sweet house in Montecito, California, down the street from the smart and effervescent Oprah Winfrey, who was a guest at their wedding!

Apparently, the British Royal Family hates this particularly sunny, particularly Californian style of do-gooding, and so Harry and Meghan want to talk it out with their neighbor Oprah for the benefit of us all.

Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special will air Sunday, March 7 at 8 p.m. ET. It will be available on streaming for those who pay for subscription services that include live TV, as well as via the recently launched Paramount+.

The interview will be, on many, many levels, very, very messy. The chat with Oprah will air less than a month after Harry and Meghan officially told Queen Elizabeth that they would not return as working members of the Royal Family after a yearlong trial separation.

Harry And Meghan Detail Royal Struggles From Discussions Of Babys Skin Tone To Suicidal Thoughts

CBC News: The National | Meghan and Harryâs Oprah interview Vaccine optimism | March 7, 2021

Conversations about how dark their babys skin tone would be. A rift between Prince Harry and his father so deep that Harry said his father at one point stopped taking my calls. And Meghan, Duchess of Sussex saying she just didnt want to be alive anymore.

These were some of the shocking details described by Harry and Meghan in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey, the first they have given since they stepped away from official royal duties last year. They said they would have stayed had they gotten support from the royal family.

In one of the only lighthearted moments, the couple revealed their second child, expected this summer, will be a girl.

But Harry and Meghan spent most of the discussion trying to give their side of many of the tabloid stories that have circulated about them since they got together, including one about how Meghan had once made her sister-in-law, Catherine, cry.

While they had harsh words for their treatment in the press, the most disturbing parts of the interview centered on how they were treated by members of the royal family. Harry said he had a really good relationship with the Queen, but said he was disappointed by his father and that, while he loves his brother William to bits, theyre on different paths.
