The answers to these questions will increase your understanding of their problems and whether or not you want to work there.
What About Questions By Phone Or Zoom Are They Different
If you’re in a zoom, panel, or phone interview, many of the questions to ask are not different.
The only thing to keep in mind is which questions could have already gotten answered to you in another way. If the interviewer feels like they covered a topic already. And you decide to inquire about it further, it could show that your active-listening skills aren’t strong.
Be sure to keep notes during the interview. And then reference those notes when you’re deciding which questions to ask.

What Soft Skills Are Most Important In This Role
You can typically figure out what hard skills are required by looking at a job description, but it may be tougher to know what type of soft skills an employer wants. So I recommend asking them about this topic in the interview.
Or, if its already mentioned on the job description, you can ask a question like, I saw the job description lists a couple of soft skills that are needed for the position, like multitasking and excellent communication. Im confident about my abilities in those areas, but can you share how those would be used in the position and how strength in those areas would help me perform well?

First off, remember that universities have different interview protocols, so its important to find out how your specific interview will be conducted: Will it be a series of questions and answers or will it be open ended ? How long is the interview? Do you have 30 minutes or an hour? What is the focus of the interview? How much should you know about the school? Just do your research and be prepared for anything!

When Closing The Interview How Many Questions Should You Ask
At the end of your interview, youll likely be asked by the hiring manager if you have any questions for them. And this is really the best opportunity to ask the most important questions. Sarah recommends having five questions prepared because its likely that some will be answered during the interview.
She explains that If you have no questions ready, it says I didnt do my research. You need to ask one or two thoughtful questions to show youre prepared for this job and are truly interested. If you ask a lot more than two questions though, it says to the hiring manager that youre too high maintenance.

Bonus: Questions You Should Never Ask During An Interview
- Information that can be found through a simple Google search. Interview questions such as, What does your company do? or Who is your competition? make you look like you did not do your research and are not serious about your candidacy.
- Gossip. If you have heard something through the grapevine that makes you doubt the company’s financial strength, ask your question in a non-confrontational way. Instead of, Why are you about to lay off 1,000 employees next month?, ask the hiring manager for his or her opinion about how well positioned the company is for the future.
- Pay, raises, and promotions. All of that will be discussed as part of the offer and salary negotiations during the interview process. It’s best to avoid questions that make you look too cocky, or paint the picture of someone who makes the decision based primarily on money.
- Background checks. Assume that the company will run a background check as part of the pre-offer due diligence. Asking this question makes you look like you have something to hide.
- Email or social media monitoring. Assume that the company monitors network usage in some way. The internet has a long memory and written comments have a way of getting around. Play it safe and don’t use the company’s network in ways that can make you look unprofessional.
- Deeply personal or invasive questions. You don’t want to make the interviewer feel uncomfortable or defensive.

It’s safe to say you should avoid bringing up money. At this point, hold off on asking about the salary and benefits situation. You’re getting ahead of yourself, and these types of questions could give off the impression you’re more interested in the pay and perks than the job and company.
You should also avoid asking about any reimbursements. If you had to travel for an interview and the company promised to reimburse you for those expenses, wait to bring it up. Chances are, it’ll get taken care of once the interview process starts coming to a close.
Finally, resist asking outright when you’ll know if you’ve been hired. There are more eloquent ways to inquire about the timeline of the hiring process without being too assertive and aggressive.
Overall, the job-search process takes time. You’ll have to be patient and do your best to leave the lines of communication wide open and luckily a simple question in your follow-up email can do just that.
