Write A Customized Detailed Thank

Here is the word-for-word email I sent my future hiring manager:

Hey Anum,

Thank you again for talking with me Tuesday night, I really appreciate the advice and all your help. It was great to learn more about the Sidekick team and your experience at HubSpot.

Working with such a scrappy, fast-paced team within a company I truly admire would be an incredible learning experience, and I would love the opportunity to prove I’m a great fit for the role.

Attached is a how-to slide deck on SEO that I created for our at 451 Marketing. I’ve also attached my resume and a one-pager to illustrate why I want to work for HubSpot and how I align with the culture.

Below are highlights of publications I’ve contributed to:

Cambria

I knew I wanted my post-interview follow up email to convey these elements:

  • Context and personality: I started jotting down notes after the interview to ensure that I could include some personal connection or common interest that would help Anum remember me among a pool of hundreds or even thousands of candidates.
  • Determination: I tried focusing on these main themes to demonstrate how badly I wanted the job:
  • Specific characteristics of the team that stood out to me
  • Elements of the position that appealed to me most
  • Values that I share with the company
  • For example, I emphasized the scrappy, fast-paced” nature of the team as an aspect that particularly excited me about this role.
  • Hustle: Finally, I needed to hustle. This brings me to the final step.
  • Thank The Interviewer For Their Time

Start the email with the interviewers first name as seen in the samples below. Express your gratitude and be authentic in your writing. If you talked to multiple managers send them each an email if you have their contact info.

A key tip is to ask for a business card when you talk to each employee. If they dont have one ask for their company email.

Remember If you are talking to 3 or 4 people in an interview it is crucial to make a good impression with each one. A thank-you note goes a long way towards this step.

Why Is It Important To Send A Thank You Email After An Informational Interview

An informational interview thank you email expresses your appreciation to the business, organization or individual for taking the time to provide you with valuable insight about a position or role you’re interested in. Sending a thank you email to follow up after an informational interview is an effective means for showing your consideration and continued interest in a position within that company. It is also not something every job applicant will do, which puts you foremost in the employer’s mind and demonstrates a higher level of professionalism.

What Is The Preferred Method Of Sending A Thank

Amanda Augustine, career advice expert for TopInterview and TopResume, said that email is the most common method for sending a post-interview thank-you note “because of its immediacy and ability to attach materials or hyperlink to additional information that can help advance their candidacy to the next interview round.”

On the flip side, if the company seems more old-fashioned and stays to the more traditional side of things, a handwritten note mailed to the office might get you further.

“I prefer handwritten notes,” said Rachel Sutherland, founder of Rachel Sutherland Communications. “Everyone loves getting mail, especially something you’re not expecting. It’s kind of funny to think of snail mail as being special, but in this case, it works.”

If you’re doing a handwritten note, your method of delivering it depends on the timing of the hiring process. Smith said that if you know they’ll be making their decision the next day, write the note as quickly as possible. In that instance, Smith suggests writing the thank-you note in the lobby and asking the receptionist to deliver it as soon as possible.

“The content of the message is more important than the method of delivery, be it email or a handwritten note,” said Beverly Friedmann, content manager at MyFoodSubscriptions. “That said, a handwritten card is certainly a nice gesture that you don’t typically see these days.”

    How To Write It

How To Write A Thank You Email After An Interview & IMPRESS THE INTERVIEWER

Most interview thank you letters say the same thing: thanks for your time, thanks for the opportunity, and hey, I really want this job! In order for yours to grab attention, youre going to have to change it.

When you return home from your interview, and while everything is still fresh in your mind, take some notes. Did you cover any topics that seemed particularly important to the interviewer? Was there something she said that made you feel excited about the prospect of working for this company? Write them down, identify your key to take away, and then reflect it in your thank you letter. Here is an example :

Thanks for todays lively chat. After meeting you, Im more excited than ever to continue to explore the content strategies weve discussed, ideally as the Content Director at XYZ Company.

Subject line: Thank you for your time

    Dear Mr. Jefferson,

Thank you very much for your time yesterdayit was a pleasure speaking with you about the account executive role. From our conversation, its clear that ABC Inc. has the energetic and hardworking environment Im seeking.

I especially enjoyed discussing your need for someone who can create value and insight during client conversations. Its an interesting challenge, and Ive continued reflecting on it since our meeting. Over the last few years, Ive encountered many of the same roadblocks we discussed: tightening client budgets and lengthy decision-making processes. Prioritizing the quality of the conversation over simple information delivery has been one of my most successful tactics in overcoming those roadblocks and one reason Ive routinely exceeded my quotas.

In my relationships with clients, I focus on building trust and boosting credibility, and Im excited about the prospect of bringing that skill set to ABC Inc. If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me by email or phone.

Use Good Quality Thank You Notes Or Paper

If you are going to hand write your note, use standard thank you notes you find in a stationery/card store. Dont use fancy and flowery cards unless they are appropriate for the business , and avoid very small cards since that will limit your ability to include sufficient information.

Thank you notes typically fold in half with Thank you on the top and the inside blank. Hand write your thank you on the bottom half or the right half of the inside of the note, depending on how the card works, so that your note is immediately visible without having to turn the card to view it when opened.

If you are sending a word processed note, be sure to have good quality paper in your printer with, hopefully, matching envelopes for you to use.
