What Do We Know About The Meghan And Harry Interview From The Teaser Clips

Ecamm Live: How To Host An Interview Using Skype

CBS has released three 30-second teasers from the two-hour interview, providing insight into what to expect from the conversation.

In the clips, Harry opens up about his mother, Princess Dianas death and told Winfrey that his and Meghans life had been unbelievably tough but at least we had each other as he spoke of their decision to quit royal life and move to California.

In the second excerpt, Harry says he is grateful to have had Meghans support throughout his exit from royal life, while also expressing admiration for what his mother had to endure under similar circumstances.

He told the chat show host: Im just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you, with my wife by my side, because I cant begin to imagine what it must have been like for her, going through this process by herself, all those years ago.

In the third, Oprah speaks about when she was approached the duchess for an interview ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, which Meghan was forced to decline.

That wasnt my choice to make, Meghan said. So, as an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that is … different than I think what people imagine it to be, its really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes.

How To Schedule A Job Interview

Scheduling remotely can be a difficult task. Its hard enough under normal circumstances to find a time when all involved parties are available. More likely than not, this will be compounded by current affairs.

The right software can streamline the scheduling process. Modern applicant tracking systems allow for mass self scheduling which takes much of the time, effort, and headaches out of scheduling for both the candidate and hiring team.

What To Wear To A Recruitment Day Event

The employer hosting the recruitment event may indicate whether theres a formal or casual dress code. If there isnt any guidance on what to wear, research the company to help you understand whats appropriate to their business culture. For any type of interview, dressing neatly and professionally is always a good idea.

Understand The Star Interview Format

STAR is an acronym that stands for situation, task, action, and result. It is an interview technique used to gather relevant information about a specific capability for a job. Generally, job candidates use the STAR method to answer behavioral interview questions. For instance, they may tell you about a time when they used a particular skill to overcome a specific challenge at the workplace.

If the interviewee does not use the STAR method to answer the questions, the interviewer can use it to request more information or create follow-up questions. For instance, we can ask the interviewee to be more specific or describe the results of their action.

What To Say When You Arrive At The Interview

Be prepared to make a quick introduction to the person who greets you. When you arrive at the interview site, introduce yourself to the receptionist by stating your name and the reason for your visit.

For example:

  • My name is Tim Jones, and I have an interview scheduled with John Smith at 2 p.m.
  • I’m Janine Bellows, and I have an appointment with Jack Clark at 10 a.m.

Be courteous and respectful to this first contact at the company. Many hiring managers will ask the receptionist for his or her impression of a candidate. If you act rudely or dismissively, you could put yourself out of the running for the job before you even meet with the hiring manager.

Set Up A Good Interviewing Space

Instruct your interviewers to designate a quiet, well-lit space for conducting interviews. The video quality is a huge factor of interview quality if the candidate has trouble hearing or seeing the interviewer, theyre going to have trouble connecting with your company. If your software has a test option, provide candidates with instructions on how to test their audio and video, so theyre confident using the equipment and can focus their energy on preparing for the interview.

How To Host An Effective Interview

There is a vast array of articles dedicated to interview tips for the interviewees. From nailing that handshake, demonstrating competencies, and asking the right closing questions, surely job seekers have all the insight they could ask for?

However, there is a distinct lack on emphasis on those sitting on the other side of the table, interviewing the candidates. Learning how to conduct a good interview is just as essential as learning how to perform in one. After years of assisting clients in their interviews, I have seen some very lax practices, so I thought an article advising the interviewers on how to do their bit was called for.

Choose the right setting

The interview setting will be the candidates first introduction to your company, so interviewers need to think about where it will be held, how it will position the companys image and still reflect the true culture of the company. A progressive tech company might choose to host their interview in a common room, with and informal chat over a cup of coffee, while an accounting firm may host a panel interview in the office boardroom. Both options are fine, as long as they are authentic to the company after all, the candidate deserves a realistic preview of what it will feel like to work for the company.

Focus on the Details:

Table and chair combinations, serve water, well lit, quiet, be prepared with print outs for each interviewer and any hand outs for the candidate.

Opening an interview is the most important part of the interview. It sets the tone for the rest of the interview. By preparing well and putting your candidate at ease, you can conduct a truly successful interview that will help you choose the best candidate.

What To Expect At An Open Interview Hiring Event

At a hiring event, you can learn more about a company and its culture and apply for any available positions. These events also offer an opportunity for you to make use of your interpersonal skills to make a positive impression rather than relying solely on your resume. Unlike a traditional job interview, which may involve meeting an employer on a one-on-one or panel basis, an open interview will often be conducted in a group setting with little or no private or formal interviews.

How To Conduct A Group Interview:

Read through our guide to conducting better group interviews.

Inform the candidates.

Make sure that each candidate is aware that they will be meeting for a group interview. Group interviews can be nerve-racking, so you should give them time to prepare. Since a group interview usually involves more questions, being equipped with this knowledge will help the candidates to think of responses that will help them stand out. You can include details of who will be conducting the interview in your interview request email.

Meet with the other interviewers before meeting with candidates.

This is probably the single most important step in the group interview process. You need to sit down with the other interviewers and determine how you will conduct the interview. You should decide what questions you will ask, who will ask them and how you will evaluate the performance of each candidate.

Because each key decision-maker on the interview panel probably has different priorities based on their unique position in the company, each person will have different questions. Openly discuss what those are and how you would like to address them. You don’t want to feel like you are working against each other in the interview.

Generally speaking, it is best for one of the interviewers to be in charge of managing the interview from start to finish. This person can guide the interview by giving each person an opportunity to speak and making sure that the candidates do not feel rushed.

Get Your Angles Right

Once you have your professional space in your home, make sure you position your camera or laptop level with your eyes, so youre not looking down at it. Ensure your upper torso is visible, including your hands for full expression. And remember to look at the camera when you speak, not at the screen theres not much difference on a laptop, but as in a face-to-face interview: strong eye contact is important.

Everybody Has A Plan Until They Get Punched In The Face

How to Host the Perfect Panel Interview

I believe Mike Tyson said that about boxing, and at the risk of mixing metaphors , I think we rely too heavily on planned questions as marketers. On our best days, we like to write down a clever list built on research and cling to them like religion. On our worst days, we trot out the same old questions as every other episode. Either way, were missing the true power of an interview: asking great follow-up questions. We need to be ready to ditch our plan the moment something surprising, interesting, or just plain better crops up. Likewise, we need to master the art of follow-ups for those moments where our interview subject begins to meander or sound like a PR soundbite machine.

You could ask an infinite number of follow-up questions, of course. It all depends on you, the subject, and what youre discussing or whats said. But its possible to deploy a series of three crucial interview questions to capture irresistible story details. Two of these are follow-ups. The key is to ask them in order and only if you need a given question, because the previous answer didnt cut it.

Heres the string of questions as I ask them:

First, ask open-ended questions:

For instance, if I ask a founder, Tell me about acquiring your first 10 enterprise customers, they might respond with, Well, I think in general, when youre early in your startups growth

Ugh. Ive lost them to generalities. I want the story details. Gimme the goods!

Second, ask for an example:
