How To Say Thank You For The Interview

Keep Your Message Brief

How to write a thank you note for an interview

Since the interviewer may quickly scan your email, you should keep the content brief and simple. As you reread your email, try to delete any unnecessary information that may not be relevant to the interview or to your qualifications for the position. This will make it easier for the interviewer to quickly read your email and return to their work.

What Does Thank You For Your Consideration Mean

Thank you for your consideration is a phrase often used at the closing of a job application, cover letter, letter of intent, or email to a recruiter or HR department.

It is also the primary phrase used for thank you notes after interviews.

Essentially, you are thanking the interviewers for taking the time to look over your application.

Saying thank you for your consideration may seem like fluff added to the end of an email.

And in some ways, it is.

Obviously, you want the job, and you would be ever-grateful and happy for them to look over your materials and offer you the job.

It is also a critical part of any thank you note after an interview.

So why do you have to add this phrase or something with the same intent to the end of these communications?

Because it is proper etiquette and employers expect to see a formal thank you at the end, acknowledging their efforts in the application process.

So whats the best way of closing these types of communications with potential future employers?

What is the best way of saying please look over my materials and I will be grateful forever or thank you so much for interviewing me, you wont regret it?

40 Thank You Email After Interview Templates

Listen every week as the team talks about finding work that matters.

If you want to create a strong professional brand and leave a lasting impression with employers, you need to master the post- interview thank you email.

As soon as you leave a job interview, its best to follow up with a sincere, professional, and engaged thank you email. Make sure they know you appreciate their time and attention in meeting with you!

Before we dig into the mechanics of a great interview thank you email, though, know this: sending an email is not a replacement for sending a handwritten thank you note to your interviewer. I always advise folks to do both after an in-person interview. But it will take a day or two for your beautiful thank you card to arrive on your interviewers doorstep. Email has the advantage of delivering an instant dose of gratitude to the people who have the power to give you the job of your dreams.

When writing your post-interview thank you email, keep these three things in mind:

  • Keep it short: You dont need to compose a long letter. Busy professionals already have too much email to read. So keep it short and sweet.
  • Keep it professional: Focus on the topics you previously discussed with the interviewer. This isnt a time to go into personal details.
  • To help you out, I built three email templates for you to follow. Use these templates as a guide to build your own personal rockstar thank you email to send after job interviews!

How to Write a Thank You Letter after a job interview

Email arrives immediately, assuming you have the correct email address and your message does not get caught in a spam filter. So, unless the employer really seems to dislike technology , often the best strategy is start with email and follow-up with a formal paper thank you note.

If appropriate, send the email thank you as soon as you get home. Then, follow up with the formal thank you as soon as possible after that.

When you send a formal thank you letter through the mail service, assume that it may take several days to reach the recipient, particularly in large organizations where mail is first sorted in a mail room and then distributed throughout a large facility. So, dont wait!

Write this thank you note after then interview. Then, drop this thank you note into the mail as soon after the interview as possible, preferably by the next day.

If you forgot to send this note until a week after the interview, send it anyway. Hopefully, you sent an email thank you immediately, which should be sufficient for most employers.

Mention A Highlight From The Conversation

Again, you want to keep this short and mostly focused on how grateful you are for their time and consideration. But to really stand out and remind the hiring manager of how wonderful the interview was , and remind them of who you are , briefly mention a highlight from the conversation or something you know they really enjoyed hearing or talking about.

For instance, if their eyes lit up and their ears perked when you talked about your excellent communication skills, touch on that again in your thank-you note. If you bonded over having graduated from the same college, a simple P.S. Go Wildcats! might put a smile on their face.

Be Your Best Self On Paper

Your cover letter and resume were all about representing the best version of your professional self, and this thank-you note should be no different. Dont resort to overly familiar language just because youve met someone in person, but also dont suddenly become cold and dispassionate. Keep the same tone you would in any other email to the recruiter or hiring manager, and if theres a place to remind them of your passion for the role, go for it!

The only thing you should avoid in a thank-you is trying to sell yourself once again. Youre writing this note to show you appreciate someones time, not to tell them youre awesome. Remember that.

How To Write A Thank You Email After An Interview & IMPRESS THE INTERVIEWER

One of the questions you should ask during a job interview is What is the next step in your hiring process? This gives you an idea of when you will hear back from the company.

Its important to respect the job hiring process that recruiters go through. If the person that interviewed you told you that a decision will be made by next Wednesday, dont contact them before this apart from your thank you note.

You may be really interested in the position, and you want to try to persuade the company that you are the right person for the job. But dont. It runs the risk of a recruiter perceiving you as a bad listener or disrespectful of other peoples time.

However, lets say that the recruiter said you could expect to hear back by Wednesday, and its now Wednesday afternoon. Well, in that case, its time to act. There is nothing wrong with sending a short interview follow-up note to see if the company has made a decision.

Example of What Should an Interview Follow-up Email Say

    Dear ,

I hope all is well with you. I am just following up to see if you have come to a decision regarding the position . If not, could you please let me know when a decision might be made?

Thank you kindly, and please let me know if you require further information regarding my qualifications.

Thank You Letter After Interview 12+ Free Sample ...

One of the fastest ways to disappoint the recruiter is bad spelling and grammar. Not only is this sloppy and lazy, but it also shows the recruiter you don’t care and aren’t willing to take the time to ensure mistakes are avoided. Yes, we all make mistakes, but there is no excuse for language mistakes in a thank-you letter. Microsoft Word has an excellent proofreading tool and should be utilized. After writing the letter, check it using your computer’s proofreader. Next, read the letter out loud to catch any mistakes missed by Word. Keep in mind, Word often misses similarly spelled words and usage. For example, manger is mistaken for manager, and to is mistaken for too. Double check your information as well. Hiring managers take offense to misspelled names and incorrect addresses. Make sure it’s Stevens and not Stephens.
