It was my first ever project. I lacked a skill that didnât know existed until that project expectation management. The person who convinced the client to sign the project agreement, and the actual owner of the project, are the first two that refuse to hear ânoâ. But sometimes, this is needed.

Answer received: âThe client signed two days ago, the estimations where done by X, who certainly has experience and I trust, so, we should be fine, letâs start searching for the right people, and letâs see how it goesâ.
That was my biggest mistake, listening to my boss. At the end of the day, the responsibility was mine, and I know that you, a sales manager, cannot communicate that something agreed upon 48 hours earlier now cannot be done.
I knew we could never make it.

If I had to pick a single reason, Id have to say poor communication. When the lines of communication breakdown, the resulting situation invites failure. For example, team members may not be on the same page, causing one group to prioritize one aspect while others concentrate in a different direction. Details about changes might not be properly shared, slowing progress and potentially requiring some to redo work simply because they werent informed that they needed to take a new direction.
