It Boosts The Chances Of Atypical Candidates

A video format can help certain candidates by allowing them to compensate for any shortcomings on their CV with their personality and soft skills. Julia said,Atypical candidates those who lack experience or did not go to the right school can promote and express themselves more freely. We can see their posture, hear their vocabulary and the terminology they use, see their demeanour in front of a camera and the way they express themselves. It is more genuine than a phone call and lets you see things you would not be able to detect from a CV.

According to Julia, it is undeniable that this process has allowed a number of candidates to get an interview, who typically would not have been selected. She experienced it when recruiting for Easyrecrue. I remember, in particular, a seemingly well-trained rookie, who dazzled us in her video interview. We found her incredibly energetic, articulate and smiley, so we decided to meet her face-to-face. This would have never happened if it werent for the video interview. And we get a lot of this kind of feedback from our clients.

Sticking To The Question

How do you prepare for a pre

The key to giving a good interview is to be confident, concise and direct. That means you need to stick to the question rather than talking about something unrelated.

A great way to do this is to practice the STAR technique. The STAR technique is a way of structuring your answers so that all the important information is in your answer and nothing superfluous slips in.

  • Situation Give the interviewer some context. Explain the project you were working on, who you were working with and what you were working towards.

  • Task Then be a little more specific. Describe the specific task you want to highlight to the employer. This is where you explain what you were doing in particular. What were your responsibilities? What were your goals? What problem were you solving?

  • Action Here you go through what steps you took to resolve the problem or challenge you were facing. Its key here that you focus on yourself. What actions did you take? Use I and not we as much as you can here. Teamwork is important, of course, but here you state what your role in that team was and what you did to help.

  • Result Finally, describe what the results of those actions were. Be as concrete as you can here. What were the outcomes of your actions?

Practice delivering all your answers with the STAR technique so that it becomes second-nature, and feels comfortable and natural to use.

What Are Your Biggest Strengths

  • Why do recruiters ask this: There are two reasons for this. One, it helps recruiters determine your biggest assets. Two, it helps them gauge your confidence in your capabilities.
  • How to answer it: Portray yourself to be confident and capable, but not opinionated or arrogant. Neither exaggerate nor boast about the projects you did in the past because every recruiter knows that its always teamwork and not an individuals contribution. Be creative and try to show your multitasking skills but in a subtle way.

How Does A Pre

A pre-recorded video interview is where the candidate records their job interview in advance. The footage is then sent and watched by the recruiters. It works by the candidates connecting to a platform sent via a link from the recruiter. Pre-recorded interviews are remotely recorded so the candidate can interview from the comfort and familiarity of their home.

How Is The Follow

Pre-recorded Video Interviewing in 3 Minutes – Wepow Video Interviewing

One of the main differences between an in-person interview and a video interview is appropriate follow-up time. Just as you would for an in-person interview, it is highly recommended to send a thank you email as soon as possible. This is so for both one-way and live video interviews so, collect your notes from the interview and send them over right away.

While not required, a handwritten thank you note as a follow-up to a video interview may help you stand out. If you decide to send a handwritten thank you, youll want to get it in the mail ASAP to avoid a delay.

Since there is a hard deadline for completing a one-way interview, it is good to reach out once you have completed the video interview, and then again 48 hours after the interview deadline. This way, you will come off as persistent and will be fresh in the interviewers mind.

What Is Included In Pre

If you’re asked to complete a questionnaire, you may need to share some of the same information that is on your resume and on the job application you submitted.

You may also be asked questions related to your background, your skills, your experience, and your availability for work.

The questionnaire might also include test questions to measure your ability to do the job.

Employers who use pre-interview questionnaires typically send them to candidates before an interview. The questions may be completed online or via email, depending on the company. You will be instructed on how to complete them when you get the questions.

How To Choose A Good Camera Angle

When recording your video interview, you must get the camera angle right. The best position to place your camera is eye-level. This is to simulate how the recruiter would usually be sitting if in a face-to-face interview.

You should also consider what else would be in your shot.

Try to set up your camera angle with a clear or minimalist background. Either in front of a blank wall or a space with no background distractions. You want the recruiter focused on you, not whats around you.

Get a good camera position with a smartphone

If using a mobile phone, try to use a phone tripod. This will enable you to have more control and stability over the camera angle.

If you are using your smartphone but have no tripod, you can use a wide range of phone holders.

Getting a good camera angle with a webcam

Finding a good angle with a webcam to record your video interview is simple. As we mentioned above, place the camera at eye level, either by raising or lowering your seat or computer screen.

Choosing A Webcam Placing And Lighting

There are two main things to consider here: what webcam you use and how you use it.

These are both important because they will determine how youll be able to present yourself. A clear, sharp, well-positioned image will make you look professional and presentable.

The webcam you use will largely be determined by your budget and preference. If possible, an external webcam thats a price-point above the cheapest would be good. If you have a very up-to-date laptop, the inbuilt webcam will probably suffice too.

If youre looking to buy an external webcam, then youll get great value out of the Logitech C900 series , but there are plenty of other brands such as Creative. Do some googling, read some reviews and figure out which you might like best.

Do not use a tablet or phone camera if you can avoid it.

When deciding where to place your camera, bear in mind that the webcam should be looking slightly down towards you. A low placement looking upwards is never flattering. Try and make sure the camera is positioned a little above your eye level.

Its also important to practice talking into the camera instead of looking directly at the on-screen image of the interviewer. Virtual eye contact is a difficult skill to master, but if you can achieve it, youll make a much better impression.

Make Sure You Have The Right Devices Available

Effective Techniques for Video Recording Interviews ...

If you have no other options, you can probably use your smartphone for this interview, assuming it has a camera. However, you will very likely make the best impression using a camera connected to a computer, assuming the computer also has a microphone and a speaker

Double-check with the interviewer if you need to use your smartphone.

When possible, test the connection to be sure it works before the interview regardless of device used.

In advance, test your microphone and camera to be sure that they work. Even perfect answers to the questions wont make an impact if they cant hear your answers or see you talk.

Such interviews can be conducted through basic tools like Google Hangouts, Skype, Microsoft Teams, or with the help of a video interviewing platform. Some platforms also let recruiters record real-time interviews, so that they are watched and analyzed later on.

Live video interviews are an effective alternative to face-to-face interviews when in-person meetings are difficult to arrange.

The COVID-19 pandemic is revamping our hiring processes and is turning what used to ben an exception into a rule. Find the best practices in our dedicated blog post: Remote Recruitment: How COVID-19 Revamps the Hiring Process

Compared to in-person interviews, live interviews dont require recruiters and candidates to travel to the meeting location. This alone can save time and effort for both parties. However, recruiters and candidates still need to connect at the same time for the interview to happen. In this case, the back and forth communication behind interview scheduling is incompressible.

Another benefit of using pre-recorded video interviews is that recruiters can widen their pool of candidates. Recruiters can now interview people from multiple areas rather than just nearby. This is especially helpful if youre hiring for a remote position or a position that is currently a work-from-home job due to the lingering effects of the pandemic.

People can record this video on their own time, which means they wont miss out on an opportunity due to scheduling conflicts. It allows these candidates who may have been busy during regular interview slots to still participate in the hiring process.
