What Is Special Or Unique About The Calculate And Calculatetable Functions

Ans: These are the only functions that allow you modify filter context of measures or tables.

  • Add to existing filter context of queries.
  • Override filter context from queries.
  • Remove existing filter context from queries.

Limitations:

  • Filter parameters can only operate on a single column at a time.
  • Filter parameters cannot reference a metric.

What Are The Available Views In Power Bi

Three perspectives are available in Power BI Desktop:

Report View: The first option is the Report view, which is at the top of the list. Its also the default view, so itll be the first thing you see when you launch Power BI Desktop. Creators use this view to produce visual reports based on their data. This is the screen on which many creators spend the most time. While in this view, you can also add many pages to a single report so that if you ever distribute these models via Power BI Service, you can have all of your associated data in one place.

Data View: The option in the center is the Data view. You may see your data in the Data view once youve taken the time to model it. Data view sets it out piece by piece in a grid structure rather than displaying your images like the ones youve developed. The Data view can assist you in gaining additional insights into your data so that you can evaluate it from various perspectives. This way, you can make the most of your data understanding and make the best judgments possible based on it.

What are some of the most important and frequently asked questions for Power BI developers ?

  • what are the core concepts that asked in an interview ?

  • what are the scenario based questions asked in Powerbi interview ?

My experience: Total 1.6 Year’s of Experience

  • 1 year with Excel, Google Analytics

  • 6 months as Power BI developer

Any helps would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

If I would interview someone about a BI role, particularly Power BI, I would ask the following questions/let them explain it to me. Some of the concepts I would consider advanced, but you should have heard about it. All of this can be learned within half a year but you have to be intrinsically motivated to learn this stuff.

Possible questions would be:

Not a powerbi developer but know enough to make reports that are more useful than a pivot table. Taking a stab at these, though some of these feel very book theory, or I am super ignorant of them.

Not familiar with row vs filter context, a guess would be I have run into issues with dax when the result is per row so you have to create a new column rather than just get your answer. So a row context would be across all your data per row. Filter context would be more like miniature tables of new data that are created based on your filtering.

Explain The Dax Function

Power BI Interview Questions – Overview

A DAX function is a predefined formula that performs calculations on values provided to its arguments. The arguments in a function should be in a specific order and can be a column reference, text, numbers, constants, etc. Every function performs a particular operation on the values enclosed in an argument. There can be more than one argument in a DAX formula. Some of the most commonly used DAX functions:

Date and Time Functions

These functions carry out calculations on the date and time values.

Ex: DATE, CALENDER, HOUR, MINUTE

Time Intelligence Functions

These functions are used to evaluate values over a fixed period.

Ex: DATESBETWEEN, ENDOFQUARTER, CLOSINGBALANCEMONTH

Information Functions

These functions provide particular information on the data values included in rows and columns. It checks the given condition in a function for the given value and returns TRUE or FALSE.

Ex: ISERROR, CUSTOMDATA, ISNONTEXT

These functions are used to evaluate an argument or expression logically.

Ex: AND, FALSE, IFERROR, IF

Mathematical and Trigonometric Functions

These functions are used to perform all sorts of mathematical functions on the reference values.

Ex: DIVIDE, FACT, ACOS

These functions carry out statistical and aggregation functions on data values in a DAX expression.

Ex: AVERAGE, COUNT, GENERATE

These are similar to the string functions of Excel.

Ex: FIND, LEFT, FIXED, FORMAT

Parent-Child functions

These are used for data values that are a part of a parent-child hierarchy.

What Are The Various Refresh Options Available

Display Office 365 Data Using MS Graph API In Power BI

Four main refresh options are available in Power BI:

    • Package/OneDrive refresh: This synchronizes Power BI desktop or Excel file between the Power BI service and OneDrive
    • Data/Model refresh: This means scheduling the data import from all the sources based on either refresh schedule or on-demand.
    • Tile refresh: Refresh the tiles cache on the dashboard every time the data changes.
    • Visual container refresh: Update the reports visuals and visual container once the data changes.
    • Teradata Database

Live Connection: Live connection is analogous to the direct query method as it doesnt store any data in Power BI either. But opposed to the direct query method, it is a direct connection to the analysis services model. Also, the supported data sources with live connection method are limited:

    • SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular
    • SQL Server Analysis Services Multi-Dimensional
    • Power BI Service

Import Data : By choosing this method, you upload the data into Power BI. Uploading data on Power BI means consuming the memory space of your Power BI desktop. If it is on the website, it consumes the space of the Power BI cloud machine. Even though it is the fastest method, the maximum size of the file to be uploaded cannot exceed 1 GB until and unless you have Power BI premium .

But which model to choose when depends on your use and purpose.
