I wanted to talk about this. As an undergraduate, I must tell you, it is really, really, really difficult to get a data science role, because when it comes to that, companies expect either a masters degree or experience in the same field.

So being an undergraduate, it was really tough to find a role in data science. Basically may it be data analysts, data science, machine learning or anything, experience and a higher degree matter.

But yeah, I consider myself lucky, when a company like Amazon visited college for the same and I cracked it in one go like, it was the only shot that I had. So the most difficult thing while exploring the data science role was the experience part.

Q4 What Was The Interview Experience At Your Current Company

So, while interviewing at Amazon, there were a total of 3 rounds, two technical and the third one is called the bar raisers round. So if I talk about the first technical round, it was full of Python and SQL and a little bit of relational databases related questions.

They were expecting a little bit of knowledge about DBMS, Python in depth and a little bit of SQL.

Then in the second interview, it revolved around the visualization part. They asked me about all the charts that can be used in a real world scenario, how can we draw them in Tableau? What are their real world significance like line plot, scatter plot, bar plot, pie chart, etc.

Then they also gave some case studies to solve real world problems. The interviewer gave me some data and asked me to provide a matrix for this data at that particular moment.

Then in the third round, the bar is a round with a very professionally experienced person who comes in and takes the interview. It is more like an HR round. It is not a technical interview exactly.

They asked you how you would help the company and what makes you different from other people?

They basically discuss one of your projects, whichever you want, and then ask you what you did in this project uniquely, that others would not have had and basically the BR round is an easy one.

If you know the answers to their questions. They dont talk about technical stuff, they talk about how you would help Amazon grow and how you are different from others.

5. Which data modeling software do you prefer to use?

BI analysts mostly use Microsoft Excel or Power BI for their data modeling needs. The required or preferred tools will be most probably listed in the companys job description, so it would be best to refer to those. If you have relevant experience, share your level of expertise with the interviewer. In case you lack exposure to their preferred software or programs, explain how you can incorporate your skills into their systems.

I do most of my data modeling in Excel, as I find it most convenient for data mapping. I have some exposure to Power BI, as well. However, I believe I can benefit from sharpening my skills in that program. Thats why Im currently taking a Power BI online training.

It was June 2020. Lisa had just graduated a month ago and was still enjoying her break.

She studied statistics from a California state university and was going to join a startup in SF as a data scientist.

One week before her original start date, she got a call from the startups HR, who told her, unfortunately, due to Covid, their budget was cut, and her role got canceled.

It was a rather frustrating experience, to say at least, let alone it was meant to be Lisas first job, and she had never experienced anything like that in her life.
