Interview With the Vampire Season 1 Trailer

A hit-and-miss adaptation of the 1976 novel has replaced the homoeroticism of the 1994 movie with explicit sex

The remixed sequel created by Rolin Jones a Pulitzer prize finalist playwright spending more time these days on lower-profile small-screen work such as Low Winter Sun, Perry Mason and, most germane to the matter at hand, The Exorcist makes text of a subtext already so glaring that it eclipsed all other interpretations. Having relocated his upscale bachelor crypt from San Francisco to Dubai, Louis summons journalist Daniel Molloy for another tell-all chat, now with an added revisionist wrinkle. As he once again relates the story of his time in turn-of-the-century New Orleans with the debonair Lestat , he diverges from the record he previously laid out, explaining that the world of 2022 allows him to be candid about certain things that were best left unsaid 30-ish years earlier. Namely, that this pair of adult male companions given to ostentatious Gothic attire and arch double entendres were in actuality lovers. Molloy, ever the model of writerly professionalism, refrains from responding with no doy.

Being a vampire calls for a lot more than just sucking some blood and AMC’s Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampireexplores just that, telling audiences a retold vampiric tale from a new perspective.

Previously undertaken by Neil Jordan in 1994 , author Rice‘s story is now an AMC series adapted by Rolin Jones with the first two episodes directed by Alan Taylor . In the original novel, Louis de Pointe du Lac is a white plantation owner in the Antebellum South. However, this new series takes place in 1900s New Orleans in the Storyville neighborhood, also known as the Red-Light district, in which Louis is a Black business owner who runs underground affairs while also working on climbing the ladder of high society. Louis values his relationships with his family above all else, particularly with his religious brother Paul . However, when Louis is befriended by Lestat de Lioncourt , he is turned into a vampire, showing him the ways in which an immortal life is a costly one.

This dive into the world of vampires is a popular one Rice who passed away in December 2021 sold more than 100 million copies of her novels. Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire was renewed for a second season before the first episode even premiered in October 2022.

Anne Rice

The network behind The Walking Dead and supernatural horror drama NOS4A2 just got a lot scarier.

AMC announced Thursday that it has greenlit Interview With the Vampire, a series based on author Anne Rices 1976 debut novel, which is part of the book series The Vampire Chronicles.

The first eight-episode season is expected to premiere next year on both the AMC network and AMC+.

Last year, AMC landed the rights to the 18 titles in Rices Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches series as part of a deal with the author and her son, Christopher Rice, both of whom will serve as non-writing executive producers.

AMC plans to build a multi-show universe around the Rice books. The acquisition may shape up to be a fruitful one the pair of book series has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide.

Interview centers on Louis de Pointe du Lac, who tells his life story to a reporter simply referred to as the boy. In 1791, Louis meets a vampire named Lestat de Lioncourt, who transforms him into a vampire. Throughout the novel, the immortal Louis comes to terms with his new vampire self, but he still expresses repulsion toward Lestat and his lack of compassion for the humans upon which he preys.

Rice composed the novel shortly after the death of her daughter Michele, who served as an inspiration for the child-vampire Claudia in the novel.

Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustrated when their viewing habits and opinions arent considered, we invite you to rate all of the first season episodes of Interview with the Vampire here.

An AMC dark fantasy series, the Interview with the Vampire TV show stars Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Bailey Bass, and Eric Bogosian. Recurring performers include Assad Zaman, Steven Norfleet, Kalyne Coleman, Rae Dawn Chong, Jeff Pope, Chris Stack, Rachel Handler, John Dimaggio, Dana Gourrier, Christian Robinson, and Maura Grace Athari. The story follows Louis de Pointe du Lac , Lestat de Lioncourt , and Claudia in a tale of love, blood, and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy . Chafing at the limitations of life as a black man in 1900s New Orleans, Louis finds it impossible to resist the rakish Lestats offer of the ultimate escape: joining him as his vampire companion. But Louiss intoxicating new powers come with a violent price, and the introduction of Lestats newest fledgling, the child vampire Claudia, soon sets them on a decades-long path of revenge and atonement.

Anne Rice Sold Amc The Rights To The Vampire Chronicles And Other Titles

In 2016, Anne Rice shared on her account that she had won back the screen rights to her “Vampire Chronicles.” According to her official website, she was approached by AMC and eventually sold the filming rights to this series and her “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” novels to the network in 2020. In this new adaptation, her son Christopher Rice signed on to executive produce the new show along with his mother before she passed away. Rice’s involvement in the show beyond producing is not known, but it was revealed in 2018 that Christopher Rice had written a pilot episode for the show. This, however, took place during a since-canceled Paramount Television acquisition before AMC stepped up in 2020 .

But there are also big changes the “Interview with the Vampire” series makes from the book, and this includes ditching Rice’s 2018 script. The upcoming AMC version will be a reimagining of the novel and 1994 film, with an early 20th-century New Orleans taking the place of the 18th-century setting. The author was not pleased with many aspects of the 1994 movie or its 2002 sequel, many of which involved changes to her characters and certain plotlines being omitted or reimagined. We will never know her feelings regarding the adjustments to the new program, but the writer’s willingness to serve as an executive producer and her decision to sell the franchise suggests that she trusted AMC.

CHALMETTE, La. The actors Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid had just finished filming a scene last March inside a cavernous studio here in the seat of St. Bernard Parish, about a 20-minute drive from the French Quarter of New Orleans. The evening air was steamy, and they looked exhausted from a shooting schedule that required them to keep vampire hours under hot lights.

As they spoke, they gave off a sparkle, and it wasnt just because of the hand-painted contact lenses that made them look like tigers or ravers.

Im a very proud nerd, said Anderson, 32, who plays the reluctant bloodsucker Louis. I love fantasy. Im an emo. Im a bit of a goth, I guess. This is a dream.

Theres something inherent in this story that wants to be revisited every generation, he added. Doing so, he said, was a celebration of Anne, not a desecration.

Was Anne Rice Involved In The Interview With The Vampire Series Before Her Death

On December 11, 2021, acclaimed, bestselling writer Anne Rice passed away at the age of 80. Long hailed as a leading horror author, Rice possessed a fertile imagination that went far beyond mere frights and terror. During her prolific career as a novelist, she explored the supernatural, historical drama, spirituality, and even erotica to dazzling effect. She used her writing voice to imbue many charismatic characters with passion, pain, the search for knowledge, and the possibilities of what it could mean to live for all of eternity. Over the course of 45 years of published writing, her first novel — “Interview with the Vampire” — is also considered her most influential. The book was told from the point-of-view of Louis de Pointe du Lac, a nearly 200-year-old vampire who tells a reporter about his time with vampire Lestat de Lioncourt in the eighteenth century.

1994’s film adaptation of “Interview with the Vampire” became a box-office hit upon its release. Unfortunately, this did not mark the start of a film series adapting all of Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” series of books. Only one standalone follow-up movie was released — 2002’s “Queen of the Damned,” which was a commercial and critical failure. But things started looking up in the summer of 2021 when it was announced that AMC would bring “Interview with the Vampire” to the small screen. With the show set to premiere on October 2, 2022, one has to wonder if Anne Rice was involved with the series before her death.
