Why Is This Interview Important
In January 2020, Harry and Meghan announced that they were stepping back from their roles as senior royals in a move that apparently surprised the royal family. And on February 19, 2021, just weeks before the Oprah interview was set to air, the Buckingham Palace announced that Harry and Meghan agreed with Queen Elizabeth II that they will not be returning as working members of the British royal family.
There has been tension between the couple and the palace for years now, and the duo is expected to unveil some revealing details about their experiences.
In a preview clip, Meghan said, “I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.”
When Does The Interview Air
CBS Presents Oprah with Meghan and Harry will air in the United States on Sunday, March 7, from 8 to 10 p.m. ET. In the United Kingdom, the interview will air on ITV on Monday, March 8, at 9 p.m.

What Happened During The Interview
During the two-hour sit-down, Meghan and Harry spoke at length about their experience as working members of the royal family, in which race, mental health, and many more issues were raised. They also discussed the harsh treatment they faced not only by the British tabloids but from members of The Firm itself.
Among the most shocking allegations was that there were concerns and conversations about how dark their childs skin might be from an unknown member of the family. Meghan went on to claim They were saying they didnt want him to be a prince or princess, which would be different from protocol, and that he wasnt going to receive security.
Meghan also revealed that during her time as a working royal, she experienced suicidal thoughts and sought help from palace HR, but was ignored.

During the second half of the interview, Harry joined Meghan, revealing that he felt trapped and didnt see a way out of royal life, until his marriage to Meghan. Without question she saved me, he said.
In another segment, Harry claimed that his biggest concern was history repeating itself, referring to his late mother, Princess Diana, who was notably hounded by the British press before being killed in a car crash in 1997, after her vehicle was chased by paparazzi.

Meghan ‘didn’t Want To Be Alive Anymore’
The Duchess of Sussex was incredibly honest about the struggles she faced with her mental health while she was a working royal.
She said she found the limits put on her freedom difficult, including handing her passport and driving license over. Meghan said at one point she didn’t leave the house for months and ‘could not feel lonelier’.
Oprah asked if she was considering self-harm or suicide at that point. ‘Yes. This was very, very clear. Very clear and very scary. I didn’t know who to turn to in that,’ Meghan said.
The Duchess of Sussex also spoke about how the below photo of the couple attending the Cirque du Soleil premiere at the Royal Albert Hall in London haunts her. This is because she had just told Harry she was feeling suicidal.
‘That picture, if you zoom in, what I see is how tightly his knuckles are gripped around mine,’ she said. ‘We are smiling and doing our job but we’re both just trying to hold on. Every time those lights went down in that royal box, I was just weeping.’
Meghan added that she asked to go and talk to someone, but this request was refused: ‘I went to the institution and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help, said I had never felt that way before and need to go somewhere, and I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution…Nothing was ever done.’
Instead she confided in one of Princess Diana’s friends ‘because it’s like who else could understand what it’s actually like on the inside?’

Meghan discussed topics ranging from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood philanthropic work, to how she is handling life under intense public pressure, CBS said in a statement.
