Bryan Fuller From Hannibal Was The Original Showrunner
If there is one showrunner who has several “what if” scenarios in his career that fans ponder, it is Bryan Fuller. After Fuller proved himself with shows like Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies, he became a major star when he brought Hannibal and American Gods to TV. He was the first person to sign on to Interview with the Vampire in 2018 as the showrunner.
However, as he did with several other projects, Fuller backed out. After Fuller left, the show moved to Hulu and then to AMC.

In the 21st century, you can’t flip through three TV channels without coming across a vampire back in the ’90s, however, things were very different.
The fact of the matter is, good fang fests were hard to come by. Which is why, when “Interview with the Vampire” was optioned and Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt attached to a script by author Anne Rice herself, it seemed like a delicious prospect. Add in “The Crying Game” director Neil Jordan and a sumptuous, decadent couple hours was assured.
But things rarely turn out the way the world expects. From casting spats to rewrites and miserable actors, “Interview” barely made it to the screen at all. In the end, the film was indeed a hit, and as it approaches a milestone 30th anniversary, it is still so fondly remembered that it seems like the perfect time to look back on the film’s top-secret details some unsettling enough to make Lestat himself flash a pointy grin.
Who Will Be Part Of The Interview With The Vampire Tv Series
Although little information has been released about the cast of “Interview with the Vampire,” we have been given numerous details about those who will helm the show behind the camera. The first series will be headed by executive producer Rolin Jones. Anne Rice and her son, Christopher Rice, will serve as executive producers. Anne and Christopher will also be serving as executive producers on all future series and films as part of their agreement with AMC.
Additionally, producer Mark Johnson, whose previous works include “Breaking Bad,” will be in charge of developing the books as a “streaming and television franchise and universe,” according to the Associated Press. Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios said in the AMC statement, “This story already has millions of fans in the U.S. and around the world, we can’t wait to share this new interpretation of the classic brought to life by Rolin and Mark, as we continue to work on developing the entire collection.”

Who Is Writing And Directing The Series
Interview with the Vampire the series is directed by Alan Taylor .Rollins Jones, who has written some of my favorite shows from Weeds to Boardwalk Empire, is writing the scripts. Jones is also serving as showrunner and executive producer. and Christopher Rice are also executive producers for the project.
Jacob Anderson As Louis De Pointe Du Lac
Game of Thrones and Broadchurch alumni Jacob Anderson will portray Louis de Pointe du Lac. Louis is cynical, self-deprecating, and desperate after the loss of his brother. Lestat finds him and offers vampirism to cure an otherwise meaningless life. Jacob is the second actor to play the role of Louis, following Brad Pitt’s portrayal of the character.
In addition to his acting credits, Jacob has also produced music under the name Raleigh Ritchie.

Has Interview With The Vampire Been Adapted Before
Yes. You might remember the cult classic film from 1994, starring Brad Pitt as Louis, Tom Cruise as Lestat, and a young Kirsten Dunst as Claudia. That same year, Esquire went behind the scenes of the original production, chronicling a pre-Internet firestorm over the casting of Cruise, stirred up by outraged fans and gleefully stoked by Rice. In 2016, Rice announced on Facebook that she had re-acquired the theatrical rights to her books, and that she would seek to develop them as a television series. Bryan Fuller signed on as show-runner in January 2018, but exited soon after. Then, in July 2018, the project found a home at Hulu, but it failed to move forward. In May 2020, AMC announced their acquisition of the rights, with Rice taking home an estimated $30-40 million. AMC appears to be going all in on the Anne Rice Cinematic Universe in August, the network opened a writers room for Lives of the Mayfair Witches, a separate Rice series about a young neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heiress to a family of witches.

AMC landed rights to Rices Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches series as part of the deal with the author and her writer son, Christopher Rice, last year. That encompasses Interview With the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, The Tale of the Body Thief, Memnoch the Devil, The Vampire Armand, Pandora, Vittorio the Vampire, Blood and Gold, Prince Lestat, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis and Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat The Witching Hour, Lasher, Taltos and The Vampire Chronicles/The Lives Of The Mayfair Witches crossover novels Merrick, Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle.
Combined, the two franchises have sold more than 150 million books worldwide. Anne and Christopher Rice will exec produce all series stemming from the deal.

Brad Pitt Could Have Been Cher
Back in 1994, “Interview” was an envelope-pushing film. As it turns out, Rice wanted to push it even further.
During the movie’s development, Rice and her editor, Vicki Wilson, hit on a radical plot twist: What if Louis was actually, say, Louise?
The pitch went something like this: Louis was in fact a woman dressed as a man, essentially a transvestite. Back in the dark ages, the film would explain, women couldn’t own or run a business. So, to keep the plantation, she had taken on the persona and role of a man. Other than that small detail, Wilson told Movieline, “It was exactly the same as ‘Interview with the Vampire’.”
Who did Rice and Wilson have pegged for the newly-tweaked main role? None other than Cherilyn Sarkisian herself, Cher.
Given that the “Vampire Chronicles” TV show is about to be a reality, and the times we live in would seem to be more welcoming of such a twist, perhaps a gender swap of the character could still happen.
Who Is In The Interview With The Vampire Cast
Sam Reid will bring charismatic Lestat de Lioncourt to life in Interview with the Vampire. Reid is an Australian actor known for his role as John Glenn in The Astronaut Wives Club and for his role in Belle.
Lestats vampire sidekick Louis will be played by Jacob Anderson. Anderson is a familiar face to fantasy lovers after appearing as Grey Worm in Game of Thrones. Hes also starred in Doctor Who, Broadchurchand Episodes.
Eric Bogosian will play reporter Daniel Molloy, to whom Louis recounts his tale. Bogosians recent credits include Billionsand Succession.
Other members of the cast include newcomers Bailey Bass as Claudia, Kalyne Coleman as Louis sister Grace, Maura G. Hooper as Antoinette and Christian Robinson as Graces beau, Levi.

Anne Rice Came Around
After having been so vocal in her opposition during production, Rice’s opinions about Cruise did a complete 180 just in time for opening night. In fact, upon seeing the completed film that she dubbed a “masterpiece“, the author seemed completely under the spell of Cruise’s Lestat.
So contrite was Rice that she took out a full page ad in Vanity Fair to apologize. Decades later the author was still attempting to explain her change of heart. In a 2009 interview, she reasoned: “I was too shocked at the beginning and I was very much against I think Tom did a wonderful job, I really do.”
” got the essence of Lestat. He got Lestat’s power,” she continued. “He got his charisma and his charm. He got them all across in the movie … he had great skill in that performance.”
While for the most part audiences agreed, there was one very important viewer who wasn’t impressed: Oprah. The ’90s talk show titan hated “Interview” so much, in fact, that she walked out of a screening in the first ten minutes. She then almost cancelled a Cruise appearance on her show because of how bloody the film was, explaining: ‘I believe there are forces of light and darkness in the world, and I don’t want to be a contributor to the force of darkness.” Tom Cruise did in fact appear on Oprah’s show, offering up a four-word response: “It’s a vampire movie!”

A first look images teases Reid as Lestat, showing only the lower half of the vampire’s face behind an ornate wrought-iron gate. In Rice’s legendarium, Lestat has memorably vivid blue-grey eyes, so the choice to hide his eyes may be a deliberate tease.

This is my favorite book of all times. A friend had suggested that I read it and I was reluctant about it. I’m glad I gave in because years later it remains as exciting as it was the first time I read it. I don’t know why people compare it to the Twilight series. They have nothing in common except for vampire characters. I prefer Anne Rice’s vampires. If you want to see vampires in a different light than anything you’ve ever read, this is the book for you. It’s beautifully written. If you saw the movie, forget what you saw. The movie is completely different from the book. I didn’t like it. Read the book, you will love it.
When Is The Interview With The Vampire Release Date
AMC hasnt announced a release date yet but the eight-episode series is expected to premiere in fall 2022.
Interview with the Vampire will be one of AMCs new franchises as the network says goodbye to their flagship series The Walking Dead this fall, though the shows legacy will continue with several spinoff series, including Tales of the Walking Dead. AMCs focus in recent years has been developing franchises from their shows in addition to Interview with the Vampire and potentially other books in The Vampire Chronicles , AMC is also developing Rices Lives of the Mayfair Witches into a series that is currently in pre-production.

Before her untimely death last December, Anne Rice was attached as an executive producer with her son Christopher Rice. Rice’s novel was first released in 1976, and she also served as the screenwriter for the 1994 film adaptation. The showrunners have assured fans that her spirit will continue to be integral to the series and honor the legacy and the fanbase she has generated worldwide. Interview With The Vampire Key Art Released
It’s been over a month since AMC released a teaser for its upcoming Interview With the Vampire series, but now, thanks to new key art, we’re getting a bit more of a look at the highly anticipated adaptation of the Anne Rice classic. Last week, the official Twitter account for the series released three images bearing quotes from the series one from Daniel Molloy, one from Claudia, and one from Louis de Pointe du Lac. Each of the quotes are a bit out of context considering that the series isn’t expected to arrive until this fall, but they do give fans a taste of what’s to come. AMC’s Interview With the Vampire stars Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt and Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac. The series also stars Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy, the investigative journalist conducting the titular interview, and Bailey Bass as child vampire, Claudia. Previously released teasers for the series hint at an early 20th century setting for at least part of the story and series executive producer Mark Johnson has indicated that it was important to not only uphold the late Rice’s storytelling legacy but ensure that the characters and story appeal to a more modern audience.
He added, “We are hoping that this series compels the Anne Rice fan to rediscover her works. We are also hoping that those viewers who have never read an Anne Rice novel go running to the bookstore eager to understand what all the fuss is about.”

The Shoot Broke Brad Pitt And He Tried To Run Away
Brad Pitt made no secret of the fact that he found the entire “Interview” experience deeply unsettling.
Years later, when an Entertainment Weekly reporter said he looked miserable during the shoot, he replied: “I am miserable. Six months in the f***ing dark, contact lenses, makeup … London was dead of winter. We’re shooting in Pinewood. There’s no windows in there.”
In 2011, he once again looked back on the experience with something less than enthusiasm. “You go to work in the dark. You go to this cauldron, this mausoleum, and then you come out and it’s dark. One day, it broke me.”
Having been pushed to his darkness/contacts/gravity boots limit, the star took decisive action. He told EW, “I called David Geffen, who was a producer. I said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I can’t do it. How much will it take to get me out?’
The actor went on, ” goes, very calmly, ‘Forty million dollars.'” So whether he liked it or not, Pitt stuck it out until the bitter end. And while he may have referred to the film as “the shoot from hell,” he would add that it was “worth every minute of it. We got a great movie out of it.”
