Oprah Winfrey Interview With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – Full Interview

There is certainly no doubt that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will discuss some intimate details about their life and the royal family on the special, which Oprah teases in the above first look trailer. There is no subject thats off limits, says the host.

The trailer pans over to the Duke and Duchess as they discuss their decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, while confronting rumors about everything from incessant criticism of Markle by the press, the duos marriage, pregnancy, and more.

Meghan and Prince Harry are also expected to address rumors about their current relationship with the Queen , which has appeared to be salty at times. Harry mentioned to James Corden last week, however, that Queen Elizabeth II has partaken in video chats with him and Markles son, Archie, inferring that there are no hard feelings.

Oprah has made it clear that she intends to question the royal couple about their handling of the intense pressure of being in the public eye, as well as how Markles biracial upbringing has been covered in the press and affected her relationships with the British public. She will also likely ask the couple about their new life in Montecito, California.

What’s The Background To Harry & Meghan’s Oprah Interview

The news of the interview was initially announced by CBS via a statement that was issued to royal expert Omid Scobie, which he then shared on Twitter. ” Winfrey will speak with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure,” read the statement.

“Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”

Re Oprah interview, BP say: The Duke& Duchess are no longer working members of the royal family and therefore any decisions they take with regard to media commitments are matters for them. As non working MRF they are under no obligation to inform the Royal Household of such plans

The interview, which has been described as an “intimate conversation”, will allow Meghan the freedom to speak her truth after years of relentless and often cruel media scrutiny. It comes after she recently won her high court privacy case against the Mail on Sunday for the newspaper’s illegal and dehumanizing practices” in their reporting of her.

The Sussexes have also been in the news after Prince Harry’s interview with James Corden, where he revealed why he stepped back , while also surprising us with the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rap. Who knew?!

Prince Harry is a grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, the younger son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana and the brother of Prince William. In 2018, he married former actress Meghan Markle, best known for starring in the legal drama Suits. A year later, they welcomed their first child, Archie.

In early 2020, Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping back from their roles as senior royals, moving out of England and working to become financially independent. Since then, theyve settled in the Los Angeles area, signed deals with Spotify and Netflix and are now expecting a baby.

Their split from the royal family was recently cemented and Prince Harry went on James Cordens late night show to talk about the toll that racist, toxic media coverage took on their mental health. One subject that isnt covered in the pre-taped interview is the Palaces recent decision to open an investigation into claims that Meghan bullied staff members.

Private Exchange Of Vows

CBC News: The National | Meghan and Harrys Oprah interview Vaccine optimism | March 7, 2021

Meghan said that they had in fact married three days before their public wedding, with a private exchange of vows on May 16 in front of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Harry supported this by commenting “Yeah, just the three of us”. This earlier exchange of vows was not an official religious or legally recognized marriage, both of which require at least two witnesses. Later in March, a spokesperson for the couple confirmed that they merely exchanged “personal vows”, and the private event was neither a “legal” nor “official” service. The couple’s official also shows that they were married on May 19, with Harry’s father and Meghan’s mother as witnesses. The Archbishop of Canterbury also clarified their claim, stating “The legal wedding was on the Saturday . I signed the wedding certificate, which is a legal document, and I would have committed a serious criminal offence if I signed it knowing it was false”. As is customary for clergy, Archbishop Welby refrained from commenting on the nature of any private meetings with the couple, but added he “had a number of private and pastoral meetings with the duke and duchess before the wedding”.

Oprah Winfrey pulled off what has become a rare television event: the tell-all interview that turns into a cultural moment. On Sunday, an audience of more than 17 million watched bombshell revelations tumble out of the mouths of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as they described their lives under the palace gaze in a two-hour CBS special that rivaled any of the royal dramas on the Netflix series The Crown.

Social-media discussion of the show has continued since the credits rolled, leaving many people who missed it wondering where they could stream it. For the next 30 days, the special will be available on CBS.com and the CBS app. But after that, it will not have a home on any streaming platform.

Thats because, from the start of negotiations, Ms. Winfreys company, Harpo Productions, the owner of the program, envisioned the special as something suited to a big broadcast network, three people with knowledge of the deal said. Harpo did not even attempt to sell the streaming rights to Netflix or Paramount+, the streaming platform owned by CBSs parent company, ViacomCBS, the people said.

John Koblin contributed reporting.

How Did We Get Here

How to watch the new Prince Harry and Oprah interview in the UK

Normal protocol for someone as high up in the royal family as Harry would be to live in the UK forever, as a working member of the royal family — attending hospital openings, museum exhibits, board meetings, playing bingo with pensioners and generally just supporting Queen Elizabeth II in a quiet yet respectful way. Realistically, with his father Charles, brother William, and William and Kate’s three kids all in line to the throne before him, Harry was never going to rule. And as he made clear to Winfrey, he felt unsupported, and even endangered, by family decisions that he felt were not helping his own family.

You may have heard that Meghan and Harry moved first to Canada, then to California in 2020. In February 2021, after a year trial, Buckingham Palace announced the couple would not return as working members of the royal family, through they would remain “much loved.”

And Meghan and Harry have been busy. In 2020, they signed a deal to develop programming for Netflix, and they’ve also signed a deal with Spotify to produce and host their own podcasts. They’re residing in America now, and Americans gonna America. So the Oprah interview, while not something a regular royal would do, fits right in with what a Hollywood celebrity would take on.

Claim Of Being Financially Cut Off By The Royal Family

Meghan and Harry claimed in the interview that they were financially cut off by the royal family, with Harry saying that the royal family had, “literally cut me off financially”. In June 2021, accompanying the royal family’s annual financial report on its financial activities under the Sovereign Grant in June 2021, Clarence House, Prince Charles’s residence, released an additional statement revealing that he had provided financial support to Meghan and Harry as they were departing the royal family. The statement claimed that Charles had provided them a “substantial sum” to support their transition out of the royal family. The statement also noted that such financial support ceased in the summer of 2020. Some media outlets argued that this meant that that the assertion in the interview had been false. However, other sources argued that their claim had not been false, since financial support, according to Clarence House’s statement, had ceased during the summer of 2020, and Harry and Meghan had, themselves, per the royal family’s financial report, repaid the royal family $3.3 million in reimbursement for renovations to Frogmore Cottage.

For some background, not everyone was thrilled about the tell-all primetime event. The British pressknown for their exploitation and downright harassment of the coupleappeared to be preemptively launching a campaign to discredit whatever revelations may emerge from the interview. Last week, just days before the premiere of the special, a new report from the Times of London alleged that Meghan faced a bullying complaint from an assistant.

They added: “The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma. She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”

How To Watch Oprah’s Interview With Meghan Markle And Prince Harry

Imagine the following: You’re Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle, two of the most visible people in the world, let alone in British Royalty. You’re the constant targets of gossip and innuendo and have done the unthinkable tried to leave it all behind and have some semblance of a normal adult life. That, of course, is impossible.

That also means you don’t sit for interviews with just anyone. But Oprah Winfrey? That’s another story.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exclusive interview with Oprah dubbed Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special originally was broadcast on Sunday, March 7. CBS reportedly obtained the rights for a whopping $7 million. It was an intimate look inside the couple’s life as part of the royal family.

This one’s been a long time coming. The interview began with an extended run of just Markle and Winfrey sitting together, outdoors. Markle described her experience of being welcomed into the family and then quickly being handled, albeit at arm’s length. She talks about the toll it all took on her mental and emotional well-being, to the point in which she was contemplating suicide. She talked about lies and denials that came from within the palace in a way that the writers of The Crown could only dream of.

And they talk about their monumental decision to “step back” from life as a part of the senior family, and how that will affect their lives going forward.
