Amc Updates The Setting And Timeline
One of the biggest differences between Interview with the Vampire movie and the television adaptation is the period in which they take place. The movie sees Louis transformed into a vampire in 1791, whereas the TV series moves the timeline up to 1910. This update is done for character reasons on Louis’ part, but also changes the dynamic between Louis and Lestat as now the two have less time together before Louis breaks away from his maker.
The other major change is in terms of the present framing device. The Interview with the Vampire film saw the interview taking place for the first time in the then present-day, 1994. The television show, though, reframes the interview in two parts. The primary interview with the audience takes place in the present 2022 , but this is the second interview being conducted by reporter Daniel Molloy. There was a prior interview done when he was a younger man, where he reportedly asked to be turned into a vampire like at the end of the first movie. The creators of the series have decided to split Daniel Molloy’s role in the story into two points in his life, with his desire to become a vampire as a younger man recontextualizing his interview in the present.

Sam Reid, Interview with the Vampire
It’s almost hard to believe Interview with the Vampire, AMC’s brazen, sexy, campy adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1976 novel, gets to exist, but we’re lucky to live in a time where it does. The series stars Jacob Anderson as the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy , focused on the years he spent with the vampire Lestat and child vampire Claudia . Its Season 1 finale was a bloody, scream-inducing thrill ride, and though it was renewed for a second season before the first even finished airing, you might be looking for another show to hold you over in the meantime.

Subtext Becomes Text In Amc’s Interview
The AMC Interview with the Vampire can fully delve into the LGBTQ+ relationship that the 1994 film did not. The 1994 film kept things vague and made the relationship between Louis and Lestat subtext, allowing the audience to read it as a homosexual romance if they wanted without saying it. Part of this was just the sad reality at the time of the movie’s release, as no major studio was willing to invest heavily in gay or bisexual stories, with most queer cinema being independent.
On the other hand, the television series fully embraces the queer romance and turns the original movie’s subtext into the actual text of the show. Louis and Lestat are a fully out couple, with sexual desires and jealousy. AMC’s Interview with the Vampire embraces the freedom of cable television series by featuring lustfully intimate and also violent sexual acts. Rice’s vampire mythology introduced the concept of vampires needing to share blood to transform into one another, highlighting the sensual act of sharing fluids. While some vampire material might try to downplay this queer subtext, Interview with the Vampire fully embraces it and makes the series feel like a true 21st century adaptation of a classic piece of literature.
Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Cast: Who’s In It
There are only three characters who we know for certain survive to the present day, but we won’t name them here just yet in case they’re spoilers. However, even those who don’t make it to now will show up in earlier flashback sections, so with that in mind, expect to see the following cast members return for season two:
Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy Bailey Bass as Claudia Assad Zaman as Rashid/Armand
Yes, we will certainly be seeing Sam Reid again, despite what happened to Lestat in the season one finale. Plus, a bunch of new characters will also be joining this motley crew in season two as the location moves from New Orleans to various cities in Europe.

The Shoot Broke Brad Pitt And He Tried To Run Away
Brad Pitt made no secret of the fact that he found the entire Interview experience deeply unsettling.
Years later, when an Entertainment Weekly reporter said he looked miserable during the shoot, he replied: I am miserable. Six months in the f***ing dark, contact lenses, makeup London was dead of winter. Were shooting in Pinewood. Theres no windows in there.
In 2011, he once again looked back on the experience with something less than enthusiasm. You go to work in the dark. You go to this cauldron, this mausoleum, and then you come out and its dark. One day, it broke me.
Having been pushed to his darkness/contacts/gravity boots limit, the star took decisive action. He told EW, I called David Geffen, who was a producer. I said, I cant do this anymore. I cant do it. How much will it take to get me out?
The actor went on, goes, very calmly, Forty million dollars.’ So whether he liked it or not, Pitt stuck it out until the bitter end. And while he may have referred to the film as the shoot from hell, he would add that it was worth every minute of it. We got a great movie out of it.
Claudia’s Age Change Refocuses Her Arc
Claudia is a young child turned into a vampire by Lestat for Louis. The character is vital in every version of the story. Both the film and the television series change Claudia’s age from the original novel where she is five. The film makes her a ten-year-old girl and the theme becomes about being an adult stuck in the body of a child, one that will never grow up. In the film, Louis is partially responsible for Claudia’s transformation, while in the television series he appears to be absolved of any direct action in her creation .
The series ages Claudia to 14. While this keeps the focus on a person maturing while their body stays trapped in the same age, in the context of the series it becomes an exploration of puberty and how awful it can be to exist on the cusp of adulthood but never fully have it. She is close enough to adulthood but can’t quite pass it in terms of wanting a romantic partner, making her life all the more difficult as everything she could want as an adult is just out of reach. Recent vampire fiction like Twilight and True Blood has touched on the teenage vampire, but Interview with the Vampire gets truly into the psyche of what decades in that body would do to somebody.

Interview With The Vampire Key Art Released
Its been over a month since AMC released a teaser for its upcoming Interview With the Vampire series, but now, thanks to new key art, were getting a bit more of a look at the highly anticipated adaptation of the Anne Rice classic. Last week, the official Twitter account for the series released three images bearing quotes from the series one from Daniel Molloy, one from Claudia, and one from Louis de Pointe du Lac. Each of the quotes are a bit out of context considering that the series isnt expected to arrive until this fall, but they do give fans a taste of whats to come. You can check them out for yourself below.
AMCs Interview With the Vampire stars Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt and Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac. The series also stars Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy, the investigative journalist conducting the titular interview, and Bailey Bass as child vampire, Claudia. Previously released teasers for the series hint at an early 20th century setting for at least part of the story and series executive producer Mark Johnson has indicated that it was important to not only uphold the late Rices storytelling legacy but ensure that the characters and story appeal to a more modern audience.
He added, We are hoping that this series compels the Anne Rice fan to rediscover her works. We are also hoping that those viewers who have never read an Anne Rice novel go running to the bookstore eager to understand what all the fuss is about.
Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Potential Release Date: When Will It Air
AMC is the kind of network that usually sticks to an annual release pattern, which means that a new season of Interview with the Vampire could be with us as soon as October 2023. The show’s typical season length is a bit shorter than your average network show, so it should be quicker to make, plus nothing screams Halloween like sexy, queer vampires.
Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Potential Release Date Cast Plot And More
Interview with the Vampire spoilers follow.
AMC’s Interview with the Vampire shouldn’t work. Anne Rice’s books are so beloved, and that corny ’90s flick is pretty popular too, so any kind of reimagining feels like a gamble. But here we are with one of the best shows of the year, one that captures the essence of Rice’s writing like no other adaptation.
Yet it doesn’t slavishly follow the source material either. What makes Interview with the Vampire work so well is its willingness to infuse the text with more modern sensibilities, unafraid to tackle challenging themes around race, queerness, and male toxicity.
In short, we’re obsessed, and so is AMC from the look of it as the network commissioned a second season before the first one even started to air.
AMC’s original programming chief Dan McDermott shared the following statement alongside this announcement:
“The scope and breadth of this show, and what have delivered, is just stupendous. They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rices Interview in a wonderful way, and were incredibly proud.”

The challenge of adapting for television the groundbreaking and immensely compelling work of Anne Rice is both intimidating and exhilarating, Johnson said in a statement Thursday. Having previously produced films from such singular works, I recognize both the responsibility and the obligation we owe the material. I strongly believe that with AMC and Rolin Jones we are equipped to meet this challenge and to thrill and entertain both the loyal Anne Rice fan and the viewer who is just now discovering her work.
AMC landed rights to Rices Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches series as part of the deal with the author and her writer son, Christopher Rice, last year. That encompasses Interview With the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, The Tale of the Body Thief, Memnoch the Devil, The Vampire Armand, Pandora, Vittorio the Vampire, Blood and Gold, Prince Lestat, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis and Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince LestatThe Witching Hour, Lasher, Taltos and The Vampire Chronicles/The Lives Of The Mayfair Witches crossover novels Merrick, Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle.
Combined, the two franchises have sold more than 150 million books worldwide. Anne and Christopher Rice will exec produce all series stemming from the deal.
